Hi all,

I've been checking out your forums for a little while now, as I've been searching for a Mazda 3, but haven't actually posted yet until now. I found, what I think is, a pretty good Mazda 3. It's a 2007, on about 65 km, for a decent price; however, when I took it to CAA to be looked at, the mechanic there said that the left front strut and one of the rear shocks were both in rough shape and needed to be replaced. I informed the dealership of this, who had their mechanic look at it again, and he declared that he felt the strut and shocks were worn, but no more so than would be expected with a 4 year old car.

I guess I'm just looking for opinions on this? The dealership has said they will not replace them, as they feel it is unnecessary. They are willing to knock the price down on the car though.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do? I appreciate any advice you can give, as I'm quite frankly stumped...I like the car, like the features, like the mileage and the price, but I can't really afford to replace the struts and shocks right after buying it (CAA mechanic said expected cost would be around 1000-1200 dollars).

Thanks!
Chris

Id let them knock on the price down...only if your goin to mod your car and put after market struts/shocks (ex. Koni yellows)

And btw spending 1000-1200 on oem strust/shocks? U can better aftermarket struts/shocks LOL

i would think that you would be able to get shocks and strut installed for about $800, 4-6 for parts and about 2 for labour, they might be trying to get a sale out of you, from my experience struts and shocks are normally good up until about 140 000km ( my opinion)

Ah, sorry prob should have known this would go in the technical section!

So shocks and struts would be less than $1200 to replace? If that's the case, I'll maybe just see how much they're willing to knock off and go from there.

I dunno if the CAA mechanic is trying to get a sale, it was just a used car inspection so he wouldn't know if I would be coming back to him or not, but it's always a possibility.

Thanks for the feedback!

Chris
