So i smacked into someone today. Was totally avoidable but was really caused by someone else, who left.
VERY minor dammage on the civic but none on mine. ill be paying for his damages as it was my fault.

Either way when i was taking a look at my bumper it seems that it is coated with something that i can peel off. it was getting dark so pics are out of the question until tomorrow.

The paint under this "layer" seems untouched ( as its on the bottom of my front bumper so stone chips is common.)

Can anyone through some thoughts on what this could be before i put pics up. im just curious.

maybe the bumper has been "repainted" before? and thats the second layer of paint/clear?

paint seal? here in NB they sell it and its almost the same deal as undercoating but it goes over your paint

It seems sticky. But looks like paint. It's also rubbery. I'm thinking paint seal may be the answer. I was also thinking vinyl but again it looks painted.
It just seems to rubbery to be from a repaint and it's not clear.
Thanks for the replies. I'll post pos tomorrow.

P.s. The damages on my car were just wiped off with my hand.

Here are some pics. sorry about the phone pics its all i have at the moment

bottom of bumper where the "chip" is comming off

front of bumper, you can see all the stone dammage on the bumper except that one area that was covered with the stuff i peeled off.

a peice i peeled off front and back ( matches paint colour perfectly)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/peterm15/af45b072.jpg

finally the damage. no gouges and cars a little dirty

Now EVERYTHING in the pictures look alot worse than it really is. Truthfully everything is barely noticeable even when withen a few feet.

as well it is NOT sticky, my fault, and its not stretchy but still very flexable. i can even fold the peices without it cracking.

It does seem a little more like paint now, just a very flexable paint.

I also have a couple more questions. Aprox cost to refinish an entire front bumper. ( just sanding and paint no filler needed.) and is it legal to drive without a bumper cover for a little while.

I dont know about it being plastidip, the bask side of it is grey which makes me think paint.

SP although seems like a great shop, i just dont have time to head out there for a fix that alot of people can do well. Granted when it comes to mech. repairs that i cant handle ill be going to him.
Google map says 30ish min to get there from my place, same as nextmod, but it takes me over an hour to get there unless its 2am. its all bout where i live, which again is why i was wondering about driving without a bumper cover. if i can drive without one id be more inclined to go to SP.
My car is used alot for work and i cant afford it being down for more than a day.

looks like another layer of paint, someone didn't do a good job sanding... need to see it in person to say for sure.
