Esentially its just for shits and giggles, to see how things go.

Ive always been told that i could sell ice to and eskimo, by countless people. Ive just always had that people nack, its mainly because im honest. Ive worked in retail sales before and personally sold more in a year for the reptile dept. then the rest of 20 something other reptile departments in the chain combined.

Im not overly getting into this due to the money, its mainly being out there helping someone choose whats right for them. I know it sounds corny but believe me its true.r

I have done a bit of reasearch but i was just wondering if anyone here has any experience/advice they can offer me. The ups and downs, once again im not looking for a carreer change but if good things happen you never know.

Thanks alot.

Forgive me if this sounds harsh but if you're one of those "sell ice to an eskimo" people, stay out of the business. My dad is a realtor and there are are enough "talk people into things" agents out there who spoil the business for the good honest agents. You're selling someone their biggest investment, not a reptile or pet supplies. This is not the kind of business for people who like to talk/persuade people into buying something.

BTW: 98% of the people who get a license just for the sake of it to try out the business fail in 3 years.

if you're just doing it for shits and giggles. keep in mind you'll only be selling to friends and family, b/c you obviously wont build a name for yourself.

more importantly keep in mind that you'll have to pay annual fees to stay registered as an agent, so if you're not selling you're spending money for nothing.

I fully agree, which is my point, I have never really talked people into things, more out of them, if its not a good fit.

its mainly being out there helping someone choose whats right for them
I dont think i was clear enough. I dont try to sell things, it just happens. kind of.
I dont lie to people which is a main thing, Im not out there to rip anyone off or talk people into things that arent right for them, ive always tried to keep my name clean. I feel im a good salesman because i work hard for people to trust me and work hard to keep that trust. I tried to make that clear but its a little difficult in such a relaxed manor. If people want something that i believe is not right for them id perfer to walk away and not have my name attached.
What you said does not sound harsh to me, its reality. I realise that 98 percent fail. i also realise that in Toronto 98% of houses are sold by 3 majour companies. I do want to "see how things go" but in more of a perfessional atmosphere. Im more just looking for what it takes to be successful in the business .

Ive been talking to a few agents already and all have said the same thing, you cannot expect a carreer change off the bat, it takes many years of hard work to get there. Which is mainly why im looking into realestate in particular, hard work gets you somewhere, in my current company hard work tends to work great for a little while but soon means nothing, its whoever will do it cheaper.

Granted nothing is set in stone and frankly i expect alot of people to say dont bother, its wether i believe i can handle the reasons people say dont. So far the stats dont scare me off. There are many different types of workers out there, i believe most get into realestate because of the "quick paycheck" not knowing what it takes to get to a decent one.

The quote mixed with hard work will get you far in any business. I say go for it and best of luck to you :thumbsup

I remember when my parents were shopping for a home, the agent walked into a house with my parents and said, "Ohhh, I like this!". My dad said "I don't, see ya".

I'd thought about getting into real estate. My gf's mom does it and makes an absolute killing. Real estate is not sales though, just remember that. You make money and get clients based on your clients' good experience.

IMO I think I'd honestly go with an agent with a good reputation rather than a family member who's just doing it for fun. If I'm selling a $500,000 home I don't want to shell out $15,000 to someone who's just trying it out. But that's just me.

I have a few people at work who do this on the side and on top of there 40 hour work week i over heard them talking about how "so and so sold 6 houses last year and made x amount of $" "so and so sold 10 houses" blah blah...they make it sound like its a cake walk lol All the power to you if you do go for it!
