Rustproofing

Hi,

I live in the Dufferin and St.Clair area and I am wondering if there are any shops, that members would suggest, who do a good job rustproofing our cars.

I knew that M&D Executive Auto used to do it, but they don't appear to be a sponsor and they never responded when I messaged them. I would like to remain in the city, but I want to make sure it is a place that knows are ours. Maybe it is a non issue; a rust proof job is not specific or anything to our vehicle, but I want it to be a good job.

Quick question (yes, I know it is not related), just got my new '11 M3 GX done today (Krown), and there was a bit of overspray that got on the interior dash. They wiped the dash down with some chemical, but it left it all shiny. Would (Meguiar's Quik Interior Wipes (http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/CarWashingCleaning/InteriorCarCare/PRD~0390413P/Meguiar's+Quik+Interior+Detailing+Wipes.jsp?locale =en) or Meguiar's Quick Interior Detailer Spray (http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/CarWashingCleaning/InteriorCarCare/PRD~0390401P/Meguiar's+Quik+Interior+Detailer.jsp?locale=en) do the trick at at least getting rid of some of the shine (if not from the cleaning product than the overspray?)?

The dealership wanted $1300 for undercoating + sheetmetal protection.

I can pay for TEN YEARS of annual krown for that price.

Probably didn't talk to the right dealership then :S MoT wanted less IIRC, though I purchased me vehicle there.

Assuming that it is $600 (similar to what other "permanent" rust protection treatments cost, less than half the price I was quoted), the break-even point is 5 years (6 if you factor in inflation using bad math). If you were quoted 75% of the price I was, it is ~9 treatments of Krown.

Actually Krown has their own brand of Interior spray (cleaner /protectant), I usually weasle them into giving me a bottle, every service or one of their other products but anyways this stuff works great and not too shiny.

There are other alternatives to Krown and Rustcheck. Some dealerships have no-drip rustproofing and Corrosion Free is also a good choice and both dont drill holes in your new car.
Drilling holes in a new car always made me uncomfortable, how does it effect the frame in a collision? Anyway,our cars rust on the outside rather than the inside.

Couple of bad experiences with Krown made me look at other shops. Ive always been taking my previous cars to Krown but they scratched the paint around the drilled holes , they also left 2 holes unplugged and then tried telling me they didnt drill them lol
My Protege5 was Krowned from day one and still had rust forming in the undercarriage and wheel wells.

Drilling holes in the frame will not effect it's structural integrity whatsoever, the holes are way too small.Also dripless undercoating is useless as is any tar type coating. If it doesn't 'run' or 'seep' it will not get to the important areas of the car!! Just because you had a bad experience with one shop doesn't condemn all of them, remember they are independently owned. If you had an issue, you should have called Krown HQ. Furthermore if you don't drill, you cannot get to all internal areas which require protection....My '05 is a good testament to how well Krown and their system works, absolutely no rust and absolutely no rattles, even after 6.5 years and 165k driving.So much for your theory.

And I disagree in that there are not many alternatives to Krown and or rustcheck as others do not use an oil.As I stated before and it should be clearly understood; unless it can run, creep or seep it will not protect the vehicle.

It is also important to pay extreme attention to prone areas such as the wheel wells, top brake light etc;...which means keeping them clean and waxed always and checking them often for chips etc...This diligence may not help for sure, but then if the rust persists there is simply no remedy, It's just a matter of poor metal or the manufacturing process.

You could also buy a hatch, which seem to be less prone to the dreaded Mazda rust issue, in most cases.

Anyone with an opinion on Krown in south London? Hoping to get it done in mid-March, and it's close to home.
