I had some family over for a barbecue tonight. Over the course of the evening, my mom tells me about her week, and how she was driving to a dog park to walk her dog, but the entrance to the park is a particularly rough road. For context, she drives a low-load, bright yellow late 90's Pontiac Sunfire. Anyways, she didn't have enough ground clearance, and ended up smacking her muffler on a big mound of dirt/rocks/etc. and seemed to have punched a hole in her muffler, describing it as sounding a little rougher. I teased her that it was okay, some people pay good money to make their car like that, and she just got a "high-flow performance muffler" installed on her car for nothing! As the evening wrapped up, I walked her to her car to see her off, and she started her car.

It sounded a little... throatier than usual. I mimed to my mom to rev the engine, and she did. My 61-year-old mom sounds like she's rolling with a fart can on her car. :chuckle

I had a similar experience with my Dad's 2006 Chevy Impala. A huge gaping hole rusted through the stock muffler (GM quality right there) and it sounded like someone had stuck a "performance" muffler on there, sounded like a Camaro and loud. I actually suggested he just leave it that way ;).
