View Full Version : Steering Wheel Vibration - Rims are balanced already
Hey guys
So I have the steering wheel vibration problem + the accelerator pedal also vibrates, thought it was just the rims were unbalanced. dropped by go for tires to h ave it checked out, they said rims are fine
Went over the street performance, jimmy took it for a couple of drives and looked around underneath for a while. Eventually he decides that its either the alignment or the front shocks. He says its likely the shocks and do those first, because the car is dipping when you break.
1) Anyone else experience this problem before?
2) Anyone have shocks for sale? (fronts) I'll be posting a WTB thread too if it could indeed be the shocks
3) would i need anything else to buy as well? (struts etc). Dont know alot about suspensions

I have myold shocks/struts pm if interested
so i read here: http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?23055-WARNING-Vibration-in-steering-wheel-and-gas-pedal
that possibly the problem might be the engine mount
how could i check this myself?

the passenger side mount always goes first..it is located beside the coolant reservoir. If it looks like there is some substance coming out of it then it is no good.
I checked the engine mount , looks ok to me, did not see any leaking or anything . I'll upload a picture later. Too bad, cause if it was I could have gotten it fixed under map.
Anyone have any idea what it might be?
Had my car checked at Markham Mazda, they said nothing was wrong mechanically even though I asked about the shocks specifically....they suggested road force balancing it somewhere else. Either that or my tires are just incompatible with my rims.....i guess I'll ask more questions once I get back there
Now I'm really stuck, dont know what the problem is at all. I also had this problem with my winter rims/tires as well
bump, any opinions on what the problem might be?

If it happens with both of your wheel/tire sets, it is not the balance.
Have you had your calipers painted?

i've had a vibration for months trying to figure things out, thought it was alignment, balancing, wheels f'd up. finally just found out my CV front left axle drive is out of balance, vibrates the crap outta my car. and pricey to fix

1) Well my winter rims could be unbalanced too. I was too lazy to check this so that's my own fault. i just assumed my winter were unbalanced. now that I have my summer rims on and i still have this problem (plus they are supposed to be balanced), I'm a lot more concerned
2) No i don't, actually i was supposed to have them painted this weekend but that didnt work out haha. if i did get it done, i was gonna have the rims rotated just to see if that would help. i dont have the tools to do it myself unfortunately

was at an alignment shop, had told them my problem (vibration in steering wheel, heavy vibration around the dead pedal area, which you can feel through the floor)
checked alignment, perfect. checked tire balance, perfect.
put the wheels at eye level,(on a lift) took the front wheel off the ground and ran the car up to the speed where the vibration starts 70-80km. could see the wheel off balance with your eye, ruled out wheel bearing because other symptoms weren't there.
looks behind the wheel at the drive shaft and could see it with our eyes.
