So my court date is set for Thursday morning at 10am. I got a speeding ticket in the winter for going 84 km/h on a 60 on Markham Road just north of Finch at 2am at night.
I already did my research and know that regardless of how much the fine or points are reduced by, if I accept it and plead guilty I will still be convicted and therefore my insurance will hike up.
I was just curious, what do you guys think I should do? Should I accept the lesser fine/points or should I take a chance and see if the cop shows up?
FYI - it's my first ticket and the cop suggested I fight it. I'm only concerned about being convicted, I couldn't care less about the $110 fine.

If its your first ticket then 2 things can happen:
1. It'll get thrown away if the judge sees its your first ticket and you have no other offences, or
2. You will have to pay the ticket if its not scrapped but your insurance wont go up as most insurance companies give freebies to first time speeders, also, the ticket can be reduced if not taken away. All in all, no need to worry, try your best to get rid of it but if you don't care about the fine, then you got nothing to worry about really. Just remember if you do have to pay the fine, it'll show that you got a speeding ticket but the insurance company will 99.99% for sure not raise your premium if its your first ticket.
The cop will most likely show up as he would not want to give up court pay unless something comes up. If he does show up, he wont be trying to get the judge to make you pay the fine, if anything he may talk to the prosecutor and have it removed. I really don't know what they talk about when the cop talks to the prosecutor but if its a minor traffic offence, I'm sure they arent talking about raising the ticket and getting your license taken away.
Good luck

Wow you are definitely a very optimistic person! But I'll take the advice and hope the judge throws it away.

Most of my encounters with the police have for the most part been positive so, if you hate on the cops they will hate on you, if you respect them, they will have your back.
