Hey guyz, I installed my Vmaxx coils last week and it running great so far, only problem is whenever I turn the wheel I can hear the clinging of the springs. I think its because unlike the OEM struts, these coils dont have bearings that help them rotate. so I quite sure I install them correctly just want to know if this will eventually go away or do I grease the ends of the springs. The coils looks exactly like this:

They should have bearings or they won't work right. You sure you weren't suppose to use the bearings from your old struts?

I only used the strut mounts from the OEMs but because the bearings has those bushings that don't fit these springs.

Seems like the springs are binding

Is that a bad thing?

well I've tried looking around the net and couldn't find anything. first thing tmrw, I gonna jack it up and spray the ends with WD-40 and hopefully that would help reduce or get rid of the noise.

You tried looking around the Net for what exactly? Did you try emailing the manufacturer for help?? Did you not get instructions with the parts? What eactly did you mean about the bushings not fitting? Sorry for all the questions, but this all seems a little unclear.

Just if the coating comes off of the springs they'll rust b/c the top coils of the spring are grinding on each other. The manufacturer might sell a bearing kit to correct this.

Wd-40 won't help but a silicone lube might. It's not necessarily 'bad' but it's not great either. However fresh installs should not do this.

The coils didn't come with any instructions. I actually didn't think about emailing the manufacturer yet. The bushings from the OEM strut doesn't fit because it has a curve seating for the OEM spring whereas the coilover springs are flat. I'll send the manufacturer an email now, see what they say.

I honestly just did the install Saturday and the top of the oem strut fit perfectly fine. Same coils.

here are some pics I took of my OEM bearings. See how the the seating for the OEM springs are curved, I can't used these for the coilovers because their springs are flat.

AHHH
That bottom part comes off and sits in the blue peice on the coils, but be careful opening that up as the bearings will fall out.

This is where it splits

Lay the flat part on the table and slowly twist and pull the white part off. It seperates where it looks like its been greased, but really be careful, it may be an idea to do it in a pluged sink. so you dont loose any bearings.

My 3 is a 2007

OHHH okay damn, now I get it. :S hope I didn't ruin anything. thanx peter, I amma get this done asap tmrw. one last question, the bearings have already fallen out on me and I've regreased them. so how do I know if its grease enough because one spins freely and the other is a little stiff.

same thing happened to me.
After putting them on the coils try and spin them, if they spin fine i would assume there fine,
You may also want to make sure there is no dirt or crap on them but there not sealed bearings so it shouldnt be an issue. Im actually missing a few,

so wait, where does that plastic washer go then? between the strut mount and the bearings?

The white plastic washer belongs in the rear. I put the black one in the rear as well under the coil seat. between the frame and blue piece. But I think the black one belongs in the front but I'm not sure where.

Well I reinstalled my front struts with the OEM bearings and its running great now. Noises are gone and turns feel much smoother. Thank you Peter and all you guyz for your help. Also to the guyz at VMaxx for sending me some install pics and instructions that were in german lol.

What info you need. They didn't really help. I MAY still have them but it's really not needed.

i had the same noise issues while turning the wheel as the springs seemed to be getting wound up. Jimmy had a look and sprayed some of that silcone lube and its alot better now.

would silcone lube be the best option? i've seen graphite lube and 'white' lube as well (no homo). Are these better options? Theres a ton of different ones I saw at Canadian Tire.
