Just checking, is there any significant improvement to install COBB AP on an almost stock MS3....the only performance mod I have is the MS CAI.
On the website it stats that it will enhanced the OEM ECU and gives more power and power goes much more smoother....
Also, any cons on the car by putting that one?
Definitely worth it. It removes the 5500 rpm power restriction, removes boost limit on 1st and 2nd gear, plus the ability to tune your car. You would see power increase on a bone stock car, the fact you have an upgraded intake means you're ahead of the game. =)

Now that's what I want to hear/read.. I too have a stock MS3 and I thought that AP is good for modded speeds only. In terms of power, will there be much of a gain (how much hp/torque)? I've read a lot of postings from you (cj), fobio, bluestreak, MBNTO, snotrocket and a few more I think, and I believe they're already in a stage where there's significant mods on the cars which why everybody's got an AP....
EDIT: just saw Fobio's post. :) Thanks!
Hahah, I love that thread... Blast from the past. It has it all, the love, the confusion, the drama hahah.
Edit: Just an FYI, the AP was my very first mod, before I even had an intake. I hated the way the car drove in it's stock form... I ran 94 octane map from pretty much day 1 on this car. =)

dare I say an AP on a stock car makes it safer :whoa after all, like a wise man once said "we tune/mod for safety, performance is a side benefit"

^^ I guess this is a good reading for a stock MS3 right? I read that the WHP is about 15% less than BHP. By the looks of it, 241WHP is about 8% deviation from 263HP while torque loss is about 0.007%. Or am I wrong here....
Is there some sort of formula to convert WHP to BHP or vice versa?
You simply add 15% to the WHP to get BHP... but it's best to just leave it at WHP because the math isn't dead on.
Using the example above, 274 hp is what that car is making at the crank...
What I originally did is get a baseline for what my car looks like stock. I believe it was 233 whp. If I were smart, I would have kept going back to that dyno shop every time I made a change to the car... so I could see how the number was (hopefully) increasing.

in regards to my dyno plot, i hadn't upped the load tables per gear, just OL/CL transition and throttle smoothing.
FWIW, Brian at APH stated their DynaPack reads about 10-15% lower than a DynoJet.
you can't separate HP and TQ losses into 2 different percentages....they are related (HP is a function of TQ as HP is calculated from a measured TQ value)

I am getting my AP next week and I am bone stock...(still waiting for that damn SRI). I read that the stage 1 tune was done using the stock intake and it sais that using anything aftermarket may harm the motor?

When I first got my AP I saw a huge diffence in the car while stock. Only real mod done afterwards was a SRI and there is a different map for that. And I felt a nice amount of response and feel through acceleration, especially in the lower gears.

Man, this thread is telling me the Cobb AP is a must buy, lol...
How's the installation works? Just plug it in and load the things out?
Any cons after mapping it? Decrease in gas milage? engiine light on...etc??

Yup its plug n play... the little connector under your steering wheel. From what I understand you shouldnt be getting any CELs and if you do it will display the error on the AP. You can also display various data such as boost/air-fuel ratio etc
Just remember to unmarry the AP when visiting the dealer. :) That's about the only thing. You don't have to have the AP in your car at all times (I prefer not to, since it's expensive if someone steals it), but the dealer might notice the car is fast. =)

I think I know what I want for Christmas this year.. :chuckle
Another AP question, has anyone noticed that stutter thing when the AC is on (throttle rpm drops aggressively)? Can the AP get rid of that?

Definitely a must indeed, or more of a should if you can afford it.
You can download the ATR (I think that's what it's called) from Cobb and up your idle speed, I've upped mine to 900rpm. That should help with the stutter, I rarely use AC so I haven't noticed.

Anyone knows?
This is one of the reason why I hardly turn on my ac.....

Now I'm not an expert, but I believe each AP is designed to be mated to one specific car. I guess just make sure the previous owner unmated the AP from his car. That's my understanding of it anyways.

Before you give the guy the money. Plug the ap into the car and it will tell you that it is unmarried.

When you get the AP and run the 0 stage map it will do just fine and the car will feel different. When you hit the high RPM section you will no longer feel the bog after 5500.
Stage 1 map warns you that with the intake and the inlet pipe your stock high pressure fuel pump is literally at max operating capacity. When I ran this map before the pump upgrade the car started to stutter really hard at anything from 4000-redline
The AP is deffinatly worth it though

If it's stolen, it is still married to that car, no? unless the whole car is stolen and the AP is in i and the theft uninstall it
