ok so the other night i was driving home and i miss shifted from 5 to second instead of 4th. i kno i F#@$ed up :bang now i need to figure whats wrong in order to fix it. so the codes I'm getting are p2004 and p0303. misfire cylinder 3 and imrc stuck open bank 1. i regaped all the plugs and cleaned out the throttle body (which had at least 3mm thickness of carbon build up on it, literally sat there for an hour scrubbing with a toothbrush and brake cleaner) anyways I'm still getting p2004 and instead of p0303 I'm getting p0300. i checked compression cylinder 2, and 3 are at 78psi :( and 1 and 4 are at 103psi :P
the car is acting weird i think the timing might be off but i was told the chain cant jump n if it does you would see a hole in the cover? i do kno the chain can stretch but I'm not hearing any chain chatter from timing cover. the symptoms are starter spins a few seconds then engages the flywheel, car has power but literally wants to die on idle feels like a vacuum leak. any thoughts.
now this is the first mazda 3 I'm working on had a bimmer and an mx3 b4 so i also need to get my hands on a workshop manual.
all help and input is greatly appreciated
thanks guys

sounds like you bent the valves
somebody else made this mistake a few months ago... he ended up buying a junk yard engine
do you always downshift by pulling the shifter left as you slide it out of 5th gear? if so, it is a novice mistake because it is unnecessary... simply pulling the shifter back won't get you into reverse as you may fear, the spring tension in the shifter mechanism will force the shifter centre and you will just pop into 4th gear instead... besides that, there's a lockout system for reverse when you are in 5th gear..... I see this same mistake for n00bs shifting from 2nd to 3rd... they try to push the shifter right and forward as they try to get into 3rd, and half the time they get into 5th... no need to do that!

thanks for the info, I'm aware of the lock out for reverse the way it really happened is i went 5-4-3 red lined went to shift to 4th again and because i was also making a tight left turn i accidentally pulled the shift in 2nd instead of 4th. then off the release of the clutch i went UH OH!!! SHITTTT!!!! then clutched back in went to 4th and so on car drove great til the next day after the motor cooled. then it started doing what its doing now. i don't get y it runs fine when driving but wen i stop or idle it feels like a vacuum leak.

I know it's too late now, but it is bad practise to shift in the middle of the turn... not only can that mis-shift happen, but you can also lose control of the car
always try to shift before or after a turn :)
I think you either blew your head gasket or bent the valves... what you are describing sounds like it as you're getting low compression... higher rpms help mask the problem as there's more air moving in and thus more is getting compressed
you're going to have to bring the car to a shop... there's not much you can do unless you know how to overhaul an engine

a rebuild isn't that hard to do I've done quite a bit of them so thats not an issue, I'm just curious about y I'm getting a p2004 dtc, how i can fix it and would that have anything to do with a rough idle? also what are some other things that when gone or broken have these same symptoms.

hmmm just a thought if you have a bent valve then shouldn't there be smoke or blow by coming out the exhaust or something... and if its the intake valves that are bent then shouldn't you at least feel the air coming out the intake when you manually turn the motor?

sounds like its time for an all motor project! TheMan can be hard to take but he knows his shit... I did the same thing or almost but when i felt it go in second i didnt let the clutch out lol... but sounds to me like your only real way to know is to crack the motor open... but you know this anyway

lol well ya I'm definitely ripping the engine apart to see whats going on but I'm just curious cuz i thought when a valve bent you'd have some sort of smoke or oil coming out the exhaust or something.

ok so i checked the internals and surprisingly its good. so i went ahead and changed the intake manifold cuz i was getting p2004, new intake gasket, new plugs cuz of the p-0300 fresh oil n filter, new air filter, then as I'm ready to crank it, it doesn't crank. i already checked all the connectors and vacuum lines to make sure they're attached correctly. can't see wats wrong. i scanned the car n it shows no codes. any ideas. everything is torqued according to the workshop manual.

also the car is still jacked up, does mazda have a leveller system that won't let it start on a incline of 45° or more?

update: got it running turns out the cps wasn't properly connected had press it in against the block for it to click. anyways car runs ok but has a rough idle, doesn't cut off anymore its burning clean has water coming out the exhaust no smoke, no more misfire. but its still idling rough, any thoughts?
