View Full Version : Speculation - Future Electric Cars & SEMA/Tuners

Any one else kind of excited/interested in how the car tuning scene (and SEMA) will evolve in the future as electric cars potentially become more common?

Whereas today people have dreams of grandeur about putting turbochargers onto their grocery-getters, perhaps in the future people will dream of adding aftermarket KERS systems to give their electric econobox more punch when passing or in the quarter mile?

It will also be interesting to see how tuners balance short-burst sprinting power against long-distance viability, since it is difficult to achieve good range without adding heavy storage systems for additional juice, or similarly reducing range while increasing power by over-tapping the electrical supply.

Anyone else ponder what sort of changes we might potentially see in the next 10, 20, 30+ years?

Hydrogen fuel cells are the future of electric vehicles. Batteries are inefficient and have a limited life span.

That being said, I think that a significant aftermarket will be born to provide electric motors and rebuild kits to increase the output of original equipment motors. Once fuel cell technology is mainstream I'm sure there will be an aftermarket supply of those offering increased output and efficiency to support higher output motors.

Screw the electric cars. If and when we run out of dino oil for fuel, I'm buying a couple of horses and a wagon and use that as my daily driver... Now that's environmentally friendly! LOL
