Hey guys, Ive noticed lately a weird ring of rust on my passenger side rear rotor.

As you can see in the pictures below the ring goes along the outside edge of the rotor about an inch in width.

It looks like the brake pad itself has worn down in that corner and is no longer making contact with the rotor.

No other rotors on the car have this mark, they're all shinny and appear to have even brake pad contact lol

Is that whats causing this? why would just the corner wear out? Could I have a warped rotor?

Thanks guys and gals!

I don't have a problem changing the brakes but my service 2000kms ago the tech said there was a ton of meat left on all 4 pads lol.

Pad isn't seated properly.... looks like it is jammed in at an angle. Generally the calipers should have enough oompf to seat the pads even if they are wedged in... so I would also suspect that at least one of the sliders on that caliper is seized.

Okay thanks, Im going to give mazda a call tomorrow first thing. I wonder if this would be under warranty or not. Should be im guessing.

Went to mazda, they have no idea what caused this and said everything is working fine. Gave me new rotors for the back...I have a feeling this may just end up happening again..

I'd avoid hawk pads to be honest, never used them myself but in general, especially on such a new car, I'd get something a little nicer.

That shouldn't be happening to your rear rotors. whatever caused it I would hope is fixed. I hope they lubed your sliders again when they changed the rear rotors. I have 41,000 kms on my car and my brakes are minty fresh. I also only drive it on sat and sun in the summer and only 2 days a month in the winter typically, so if anyone's caliper should seize, it'd be me. Mine haven't though.

I have to say, it is strange!

Honestly, I was just told "Were giving you new rotors, not sure what caused this, we haven't seen this" and come back if it happens again. Im going to keep an eye on it and if it happens again i will go back and be reading some of your ideas to them lol

I have the same problem on ALL 4 ROTORS! lol .... been told its not THAT big a deal as long as the brakes are still biting.

my rotors are warped (for sure) so it might be that, but i thin its just uneven ware of the pads and rotors meeting and a combo of seating issues etc.

if you find out eactly what the problem is, i'd be curious to find out
