Cdn Tire - Garage Stool on sale 50% - STAY AWAY (09-0034-2)

In this week's flyer (Aug 12-18, 2011) on page 14 there is a garage stool listed at 50% off.

I looked at the box and it looked sturdy and had a 250 lb rating. I bought the unit and brought it home for assembly.

Step1 starts by fastening the 4 legs to a plastic cross member. No problem
Step 2 fasten the ring. I begin to slide the ring into place when two of the legs pop off!

Closer inspection of the cross member and the plastic has tonnes of air bubbles in it.

Went to return and saw a bunch of them sitting there.(I assume same problem)

THIS DEAL IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. DO NOT BUY THIS

no wonder they're on sale. whenever i see a sale i think "why do they want to get rid of these so bad"

They're not bad. I bought a couple of these to have in one of my server rooms that has a 36" high counter. I'm only 180lbs, but they seem sturdy enough to me. They are better than those wooden cheapo bar stools IMO. 'm not confident they'd be good in a garage that didn't have level floors, or for purpose other than mundane tasks like soldering. Certainly worth the $20 to keep around when you have friends or neighbours visiting you while you work, plus the stools don't have a back so they tuck under your bench nicely.
