Interesting indeed.. Which also gave Motorola stock holders a big 57% (http://www.nasdaq.com/aspx/stock-market-news-story.aspx?storyid=201108151041dowjonesdjonline000 097&title=tech-stocksgoogles-buyout-of-motorola-mobility-leads-techs) jump (I wish I had Motorola stocks)..... :) It could be a glimpse of what Google is trying to accomplish in the future.

I say good for them. Nice to have Google backing them up.

Hmmmm, Google buying Motorola, Microsoft to Nokia.... Food for thought.. :FYI smiley

I hear discussion of how this makes Google into a company that develops software AND hardware, kind of like the other two competitors that Google has in the wireless industry; Apple and RIM.

With this in mind, Google could potentially lock themselves to just Motorolla and literally destroy alot of companies along the way. Apple and iOS, RIM and BBOS, Google and Android.

From what i've read, they have no plans to limit future android releases to Motorola phones, they will continue to develop it as an open OS and nothing will change for the licensees. This purchase seems to be primarily to acquire Motorola's patents for use in the legal battle against Apple/MS

Good info...plus, from what I've read, Motorola won't get any short-cuts into the Nexus business, meaning they still have to bid and build to spec the Android requirements set forth by Google. Along this line of logic, Android will never get shut-out even if all the other cellphone makers band together and somehow abandon Android (not gonna happen, but...)

Nope, you're absolutely right...not with the ecosystem the way it is now. It would be foolish for HTC, Samsung and the like to abandon the OS that has seen their sales through the roof in the past few years.

Google knows exactly what they are doing, smart bastards.

What's funny is that Google probably knew what they were doing when they intentionally dinked around with their Nortel patent bids - intentionally costing the competition more money by pumping up the bids with non-sensical bids like Pi. In the end, they got more patents than what was up for bids.
