View Full Version : Rotor/brake noise after coilover installation?

During the coilover installation I noticed the left front rotor was a bit loose(car in the air and tires removed)while right side rotor was pretty tight. I tried to rotate the left rotor and it was making some squeaking/scraping sound like the rotor was in contact with something(brake pad?).Somebody told me the rotor was actually tightened by tire and lug nuts so being a bit loose when tire is removed has nothing to worry. I cleaned the brake/rotor by braker cleaner throughly after the installation was done but it's still making this noise every time when car is moving now. By visual inspection I could see anything wrong, and I didn't touch the brake and the rotor during the installation.

Did anyone know/experience this problem before? Help please...

The somebody is right, the rotor is just held in by the pressure from the wheel tightened against it. Are you sure the noise you're hearing is the brakes rubbing and not your tire/rim rubbing on the coilover or one of the brackets? Last time I watched a coilover install they had to grind down a bracket/tab thingy on the coil that would rub on the inner lip of the rim.

I'm more positive it's the rotor/brake as it makes the same noise when I rotate the rotor by hand with tire removed.

I'll still remove the wheel to see if there's any sign of rubbing on the inner lip

if it is making the same noise when you rotate it by hand then it is likely the brake pad itself making the sound against the rotor. Check to make sure you have brake pad material left and not rubbing up against the the metal backing of the pad. You also may have a siezed caliper. Is there alot of friction when trying to spin the hub when up in the air?
Also may be a warped rotor, but you would notice pulsing when applying the brakes.

Ended up being the top part of the dust shield got bent and it was scraping against the rotor.I used a flathead screwdriver to bend it back and it makes no more noise.

i was about to say, it's probably the backing plate!
