Has anyone ever done their G2 or G Road test in their "modded" vehicle or someone else's?

My partner is going to take the road test, but I worry that my car will be declined or not deemed fit as its lower and has a loud exhaust. I also dont want a fail issued because my partner slowed down when entering a plaza to avoid scraping against the speed bumps.

Thoughts?

Just take a normal stock car its going to be alot easier. They dont like modded cars trust me. Hope you can get someone to lend you a car.

+1

They have turned away cars for having a burnt out bulb or busted taillamp so I wouldn't take any chances with a modded car.

Many driving schools allow you to take an instructor's car for a fee... Probably cheaper to go this route and pass first try than risk having to reschedule and pay twice should they fail your partner as a result of the car.

I did my G2 test with my old civic - modded and riced. (obnoxiously loud - cheap bouncy coilovers)
they just asked "does this car stall for abnormal reasons?" and "is it insured?". At the end of the test - she was like "WOW that's loud" and said I passed.

Mind you this was 15 years ago, but I dont think much has changed since.

I still think it aint worth it because like previous poster said you run the risk of having to pay twice and re-schedule all because you thought you wouldnt have a problem. Why take the risk? Isnt it 75 bucks too?

lol I took my baby out to the test and failed. wanted to see if it was possible to pass the test with my car. They are privatized, thus want you to retake the test as many times so they get the fee. I failed because i drove 10km under the speed limit in an 80 zone and told me i shouldnt be shifting in the middle of an intersection and told me i didnt know how to drive manual<---wut a retard, my first gear is sooo short... obviously, they will mark you harder if you got a modded car. As soon as the tester got out of the car, I sped outta the parking lot and down the road lmao!!! G test is such a scam. (p.s. got the g in my moms accord.)

Why bother renting an instructors car if your own car is mechanically fit?

Previous posts indicate "playing it safe" because in the past, testing was denied due to burnt bulbs or "unsafe" cars. Nobody has said they actually failed because the car was modded.

No idea how much a road test is now, nor the cost to rent an instructors car for the test.

OP - Personally, I wouldn't be too worried using a modded car for the test. But if you have doubts, or think that the roads are so FUBARed that you'll be swerving all over the road to avoid potholes - play it safe and rent an instructors car.

Your other mistake was to take the test in a manual vehicle. Always take it in an automatic. You can be failed for shifting in an intersection because you're not supposed to, sorry bro.

If you fail the test, it's another $75 - $100 to take it again.

Try borrowing a parent's car or a friends, or maybe a neighbours.

I took both my tests in a manual without issues. I just asked for clarification prior to the test.

I took my G Test in my lowered manual transmission Civic with intake, header, full exhaust, sportlines, rims/summer tires.

i passed no problem, they didnt say anything about the car. just follow the rules (you arent supposed to shift in an intersection) drive at the speed limit or just below and you will be fine.

I think you can definitely "pass" with a modded car.. but IMO it depends on the person. if they're having a bad day and are pissed off with the noise etc, they might mark you harder. Not a fact but a possibillty.

Outta curoiisty for those folk who have taken the test manual, I know they say you aren't suppose to shift in the middle of an intersection... so does that mean you start in 2nd or just let your 1st rev really high? lol.

Nah it means you are supposed to drive through the intersection slow like a moron.

You can shift while driving through an intersection. You just can't shift while turning. So if you're turning left, shift into second before you start turning or leave it in first until you complete the turn.

Basic rule of thumb is to only shift while driving straight and you'll be fine on the test.

Thanks guys - The lip is off the car right now getting repainted. So I think if she can swing booking the test soon, Ill just have her take it in my car as it is kinda modless right now.

bottom line - road test is dumb... I never see anyone drive with both hands on the wheel unless they are bad/new drivers or think they are racecar drivers, and keeping the speed limit. No-one in markham obeys these simple things. <--- and that is a fact. :D

Modded cars will be rejected immediately and you will not get a refund. At least this is what the drive test guy told me after I did mine. Good thing I had an instructors car.

Wow that guy must've been a douche. My girlfriend took her G test with my car and they were fine with it. I told her to go slow on speed bumps too cause my car is low enough to scrape lol

Only time I have ever driven with both hands on the wheel was when I did my test. and that was like 15 years ago ( yes im old ) i usually drive with one on the wheel and the other shifting or choosing tunes on the iphone, or facebooking, or emailing, or texting, or burrito eating, or... you get it.

Im Not sure id take a moded car for the test just for the " better safe then sorry " factor.

also to not shift mid turn is just weird to me.. I cant rev first too high as my brain instantly tells my hand " SHIFT IDOT!! OR ITS GONNA HURT YOUR WALLET!! but then again my brain is a cheapo!

Txting and driving is dangerous. I used to do it but I stopped because I have seen other people txting and they are swerving into my lane... bunch of tards.

Did my G test with my old sedan.. Not much mods, just an SRI, HIDs and wheels... The guy that tested me didn't say much about the car being modded and all. I asked him if there are special requirements for manual cars.. He just said, "Just don't stall on the way out" then we had a laugh.. :)

The guy was pretty lenient and was very professional too.. Repeated the instructions twice..

After all that, got my G in one shot. :) :) :)

i actually try not to do any of those things but sometimes someone texts you a very important question like " hey, what are you doing" and you HAVE TO reply " Driving "

you know...

I know... i dont usually drive slow like that, being too careful and it ended up costing me another test fee. which is why i stated markham b4.

Especially when your girlfriend wants to know exactly what your doing at that moment and why your not always replying right away. But another thing you can't do with a manual car during a test is coast. You have to downshift when coming to a stop. And your car can never be in neutral. I lost points for both cases but I still managed to pass because I did everything else very well. Gl
