Can somebody please tell me what the eh-eh "rthdcpl.exe" means?!!

Turned my home desktop on (for the 1st time in about a year) and found it running painfully slow.

Ran the task manager and saw that this think was running the most.

BitDefender says everything is good
And Defrag does nothing

Can somebody explain to me (in dum-dum terms) WTF this thing does and how (if I can) delete it

That is software that runs the computers audio system. I would not recommend removing or disabling.

98% of all software tech support that I charge $60 an hour for, I google it.
If google doesn't know, I give the guy $50 back and say take it to a professional.

should I be concerned that its running at 31,100K?

Apparently my PF Usage is a little on the high side for my PC

I googled it - but it might as well have been in ancient Hyroglyphics. I'm a dumdum

run msconfig and uncheck it as a service or startup process. Reboot and see if your sound is still working. If it is, bonus - problem solved. 31,000k for a sound control pannel is huge.

Like previously mentioned, it is for the Realtek Audio Control Panel.

You can disable it, it makes no difference. Your configuration will still be the same, you just won't be able to open the control panel without manually doing it through the Start Menu or My Computer.

Most of the time you don't need anything that is listed under the Startup in msconfig.

Turns out there was a nice virus hiding in that program.

I mean, c'mon - really? Hackers want to see my porn collection?

Thanks everyone for your input. Going to write BitDefender a nice email now
