If the fight isnt fixed, ortiz will give pbf a hard time. But as usual, it will be a boring mayweather fight just like all of his previous fights. He'll just go into a shell and wait for ortiz to make a mistake, then counter.

Mayweather by unanimous decision in another long, boring fight where he runs around not engaging and just waiting for counters and pot shots.

Another paycheque fight. Out of retirement to pay for the legal battles.
PBF isn't going to take any chances at blowing his perfect record. He'll be a technical fighter - land 90% of his punches thrown and win by UD
The Pacquiao fight in November should be fun though.

if the name Pacquiao isnt int the same sentence with PBF and the words "booked", or "agreed", or " GOING TO F'N HAPPEN! then I dont care to hear about, or see anymore of his fights.

This fight is a waste of time simply put!
All there going to talk about through the whole thing is if he'll fight manny and then after the fight it will be about if he'll fight manny.
I will pay no attention to this fight at all.

They've been talking about Floyd and Manny fight for the longest of time.. As most people said, it's just another paycheck fight, nothing special and interesting at all... Or perhaps, it's another Mayweather cover up just so people won't think that he's actually avoiding being pounded by Manny. :chuckle

But boxing news have said that..even if Ortiz beats Mayweather...Floyd wouldnt care and actually still be happy because he have said that atleast it wasnt Manny thats going to put a loss on his record...
Also to add to these events breakdown would be
Floyd vs Ortiz - majority UD floyd another one of his boring fights
Manny vs Marquez - Another Major beat down...Manny's gonna do what he do best...

As a hardcore boxing fan, I'm more looking forward to watching Saul Alvarez pummel his opponent that night. Sergio Martinez' fight later this year and the finish of the supersix (sigh)
Going back onto topic, Ortiz is a better opponent this time around, although lacking in D, Ortiz makes up for it with his punching power and his quick first step dash abilities.
It's good to see Mayweather finally fighting someone who isn't on the verge of retirement or washed up*. I can't really say the same for Pacquiao, who, in which, may only have 3 more fights until he hangs up his gloves.
I'll be rooting for Ortiz, but will anticipate something around the lines of Mayweather 116 over Ortiz 111

Agree - I would love to see Ortiz win this - but just like the recent Gamboa, Klitschko ad Berto fights - it's almost down right predictable what will happen

Manny is a beast, but I honestly think it would a crazy good fight with Mayweather, and that doesnt mean by any stretch that i think Manny would beat him down.. hell i think PBF could win that fight! but the truth is he knows there is high above average chance that he wont and he doesnt want to take that risk. In reality mayweather has nothing to gain from fighting PacMan..if he wins he is still undefeated and the best pound for pound, ( between him and manny right now ) if he loses and gets his clock cleaned then he loses the prestige, and everyone is happy he got beat.. so what is there to really gain from him in this fight? money? lol mayweather sneezes Benjamins.
ps. this is not to say that fans arent dissapointed in that, as stated below.. I only really want to see this fight involving them both, and thats it.

I really don't think Mayweather sneezes Benjamins. Like others have said, this is a money fight for Floyd because of all the legal issues he's facing. If it was up to Floyd, he'd stay retired and avoid the whole Pacquiao thing. Unfortunately for us boxing fans that means we're missing out on an interesting fight and clash of boxing styles.

I just realized something
If Mayweather loses to Ortiz tomorrow - his Perfect record is shattered.
Which means - he has nothing to lose if he fights Manny!
PBF will get a HUGE paycheque to fight Pacman (which is why hes fighting Ortiz to begin with) - boxing fans will finally get what they want - and everybody is happy! (except for Floyd when Manny kicks his ass in 7)
Even more reason for me to root for Ortiz
C'MON ORTIZ!!!!!!

lol i hear ya... i would have bet my mortgage ( if at 14 you could have a mortage ) that Tyson would have been in a club celebrating his 1st round KO of James Buster Douglas by the time was actually over and he was slumped over looking for his mouthguard :D

I'd like to see Ortiz drop Mayweather, but we all know that isn't gonna happen. Honestly, I'd be happy just to see Mayweather touch canvas without any dispute.
But as some of the reports have said... I think its gonna be lackluster. I'm more interested in the Saul Alverez fight.
That being said... I dont want to add to the stat of Mayweathers blabbering saying he had "x" number of PPV.... can someone PM me where I might be able to stream the fight.. Thanx

So what do u guys think of Mayweather's "controversial" K.O win?!???
After Ortiz intentionally headbutt him and threw some combinations the ref gave him a warning..then as he go up and went to apologize to Floyd....Floyd threw and hit him with a punch and knocked Ortiz down the floor and got counted 10....
I say BULLSHIT!! really Floyd??

I didn't expect a head butt from Ortiz. I was really rooting for him. I dont think he was going to win, but he had a few decent shots.
I understand the initial sportsmanship and apology, but the second.... He should have known that Mayweather would/will exploit ANY chance to keep that record clean.
What kinda irked me was the post interview of Ortiz. He SEEMED to be okay with it. Sure, the headbutt was dirty on his part... I think he deserved a good open shot... like the first shot, but not to be knocked out with your hands down.
All this does is set the stage or an evil Mayweather vs good Pacquiao (Wapacman) - LOL. Pac's superhero character in the phils....

After a few nice shots and cornering Mayweather, the headbutt was definately unnecessary as Ortiz could have just worked on the inside dig to the body and walk out of the round.
Although some may see Mayweather's KO controversy and or poor sportsmanship. I can understand why Mayweather did what he did. The ref did signal the two to box and shortly after, Mayweather took advantage of the apologetic and yet naive Ortiz with a cheap shot. I think it was honestly a mistake on ortiz' behalf and could have spent a seconds after to bell or even after the fight to apologize.
Nonetheless, I'm not happy about the way the fight ended, a few more rounds would have made things a bit more interesting.
There's just too many questions left unanswered when fights end this way.

This fight was a lot more entertaining than I had expected. The post fight interview with Larry Merchant & Mayweather was soooo funny too!!!
If you watch the controversial part just before they touch gloves to apologize, the ref does sort of clap his hands and says "let's go" but I have no idea why he kept looking down at ringside instead of watching the fight. I would love to hear what you has to say about that. Now if the ref doesn't believe he told them to fight, I don't think he would have counted Ortiz but instead, Mayweather might have lost by DQ.
Again, the ref says, "let's go" and the two touch gloves and then Mayweather follows right away with a jab and right cross. From the rules stand point, Mayweather didn't do anything illegal. Not the best sportsmanship but he has every right to do it. I've seen amatuer tournaments and MMA fights were all the fighters want to touch gloves after the ref tells them to fight and as one guy is sticking his glove out, the the other fighter throws a punch instead of touching gloves. That fighter gets booed of course since it's sort of an unwritten rule that fighters shouldn't throw a punch if the other fighter wants to touch gloves but really, once the ref says to fight, the fighter doesn't have to touch gloves if he doesn't want to.
Anyway, hopefully Mayweather & Pacquiao will fight in 2012 as that has to be the most anticpated boxing match of the decade!

did the ref really say lets fight or anything in that matter? because from the replays... he was looking at the ring side waiting for the time guy or some sort.. or perhaps the judges..

Actually, you're right. I rewatched the replay and highlights, the ref told ortiz' to 'let's go' but didn't actually signal the start of the fight. He should have broke the fighers to the corners then signal the fight.
I don't think a DQ would have been in order, but when in the ring, it's all up to the ref to call the fight as they see fit.
On to the next... and hopefully it's what we all hope to see!

Here's what the referee Joe Cortez had to say about it.
"I had already ordered them to continue fighting and the clock was running, but Ortiz wanted to apologize again and he was off guard. Mayweather, who is more experienced, he took advantage, but did nothing illegal. Nowhere is there a rule that says the boxer has to apologize and hug the other fighter and do it at least two or three times."

Totally agree
Was it illegal - NO
Was it a cheap shot - maybe
Was it classy (as an experienced professional should be) - NO
IMHO - boxing needs this kind of drama to bring it "back to life".
WWW and UFC have it - why can't boxing.
