View Full Version : Images in Quoted Text

Seeing a lot of quote-abuse when replying to threads as of late... Replies which basically follow this structure:
<POST>
<QUOTE>
*million pictures*
</QUOTE>
HAY DATS KOOL.
</POST>
I know it's well-intentioned... but I don't think anyone wants to have to scroll past two dozen pictures which were already scrolled past not even three posts earlier.
Are there any vbulletin plugins which can automatically convert <IMG> and <VIDEO> tags into <URL> tags when they are present in a quote? :S
Here's a perfect example... No less than three posts (on this one single page!) which include media-riddled quotes, and then only add a single line to the thread:

lol im probably guilty of a few instances of this. More often then not I delete any media from the post other than relevant pictures or just none.
Im not sure if its at all possible, but it could be enforced to use thumbnails instead. Much smaller and just click on the ones you wanna see..
example:

If it would work and not place undue stress on the server that'd be a great option too. :thumbsup

I agree it's annoying sometimes. Although sometimes it's really benefitial to quote and have the photo appear in the post, especially if the photo is from another page in the thread (eg, Pictures of Rims on your Mazda & Rice In Your Area threads to name a couple)
I think most of the offenders are simply new to forums in general and haven't picked up on the etiquette yet, haha

For sure.
What I was thinking was that when you click "Reply With Quote", when it parses the BBcode it'd simply replace the <IMG> tags with <URL> tags by default. If you want the picture to actually display, you could always just switch it back to <IMG> tags.

One person (in the Hit & Run thread I linked) has over 2,200 posts... Guess it was just an honest mistake? lol

I will look into this further. I like the idea, and have found solutions for VB 3.x, but not 4.x yet.
