my 2008 Mazda3 sport feels like it has developed a shimmy.
it starts to shimmy when slowing down from about 80km/hr,
has anyone heard if there is a recall or has anyone had that
problem?

My first guess would be to check your brake rotors to see if there is a slight warp.

Do you hear any "humming"?
Are you lowered?
How old are the tires?

Had the same kind of thing happen on a different car. Turned out to be the rotors, so +1 for that

Get a shop to check the run out on the rotors. As mentioned, they are probably slightly warped.
Either time to have them turned or new rotors put on. New rotors will probably be the better route.
