If I cut off one off the outlets (and weld a cover) from a 2010 speed3 exhaust, it'll work on a 2.0 2010 right?
I know very little about exhausts
Looking to buy vinamacks

What is the mid pipe for, will it affect sound, and can it be put on the 2.0 mz3

Yes it will fit! if you do cut off one of the outlets, it will still work. I believe Chuckie has done this to his exhaust system, but I think he only did the axle back not a full cat-back.

What do you people think of be just cutting my bumper. Would it work? Or will things underneath get in the way.

Hey man, I actually bought Chuckie's axleback, and you've heard it before when you helped w/ my tails.
It was from a speed3, cut and capped, custom-welded, had jimmy add an extension since it was too short. So yes it will fit :)
it's not too loud either, definitely noticeable difference...im very satisfied with it

Did he do all the exhaust work? The welding and capping?

Yep, he got Jimmy to do it all, AFAIK.

sounds ghetto as hell really...why not just buy something designed for your car??
I mean, of course it will work, as in exhaust fumes will come out the end, but its hardly optimized for your vehicle. Believe it or not theres more than a little method to the madness of exhaust system design. Sure, you can get away with using almost any random piping, heck, you could even cut it all off and not have any exhaust at all, but theres a good reason why people dont. I wouldnt go cutting your bumper either...not unless you a) really know what you're doing and have lots of experience working with and patching fiberglass or b) dont care what your car looks like

well I looked, and I won't be putting in the dual exhaust. It's not possible.
and why you're so set against me having a speed3 exhaust i'll never know

Don't really see how it's ghetto...people do custom parts and installs all the time, right?
This is just one of them..but to each their own I guess.

I don't really see a problem w/ a speed3 exhaust on a sedan, even if one side is capped. It's just a customized thing, no?

I think theres a profound and clearly discernable difference between an actual custom setup, and hacking apart something to make it fit. I for instance have a custom exhaust that was fabricated from scratch specifically for my vehicle. They maintained all mounting positions and followed the routing profile of the stock system to maintain the flow of exhaust gases as designed. It was built *for* my vehicle. What you're talking about doing is taking an exhaust setup designed for a completely different platform, cutting it apart, plugging one of the ends and finaggling it into place. Sure it will work, but it will produce unpredictable fluctuations in back pressure and will neither compliment nor enhance the performance of your vehicle. Maybe it will sound good, maybe it will sound like shit....theres no way to tell because its not designed for your car. Thats like buying an exhaust for a honda civic and bending / torching / welding it to fit our cars...it just seems pointless
I'm not saying dont do it, I just dont understand the rationale of cheaping out and doing a hack of a job, especially if you actually like your car (which I presume you do). if you want an aftermarket exhaust, buy one designed for a 2.0L, or better yet, get a custom one fabricated. Dont go all frankenstein and start hacking shit up. Of course it will work and you wont ruin your car, but it just seems pointless. If you're only trying to get loud on the cheap, why not cut the entire exhaust system out, or route it straight from the header through the hood / fenders? if you dont care at all, use some flexible steel HVAC tubing, a tube of caulking and some electrical tape (lol)
anyways, do whatever you want, its you're car to mod and who cares what people on the internet(s) think.

Voicing an opinion in contrast to your own is trolling now? Crap, I thought a troll was someone who intentionally derails conversations, or chimes in even when they’ve nothing intelligent to say...Guess I didn’t get that memo in my 20+ years on the internet :\
If you weren’t interested in hearing others opinions on your project, why bother posting on the internet anyway? I wasn’t trying to be malicious – I told you that yes it would work, but that it’s just not a very smart idea. Its ghetto in the same way as people who torch / clip their springs or make “custom” air intakes from PVC piping. Sure it’s going to work, but it’s not proper, and it’s not engineered for optimal performance...anyways, you seem dead set on this. Don’t let the internet dissuade your plans of exhaust mastery.

Sorry Hyperion, he actually is trying to give you some useful advice. On the first gens the Speed3 exhaust works just fine because it's single tip and the same engine.
On the 2010's they're all different sizes, plus the speeds have dual tip. So that changes the flow of exhaust and the back pressure. It would be a better use of your money to get something designed for your 3 than to get the speed 3 exhaust.

Hyperion, n00b's right. Exhaust systems are designed for a specific flow and back pressure to optimize power output. For example, I know that if you put a 1st gen speed3 exhaust on a 1st gen NA, it'll actually cause a power loss (even though they're both 2.3L). I looked into it and decided it wasn't worth it, even if it sounds great.
By no means am I saying don't do it, just that maybe your money would be better spent on a better exhaust. In the end it's your call.

he said hood/fender (i.e. like a race car?) not roof lol. he was just being literal (about getting loud on the cheap), not trolling. anyways have you looked into axle backs that are designed for 2.0? Specifically the RB one...its quite nice - not too loud or ricey, but just enough noise to make it pleasant (for dd use) and enjoyable when you step on the gas.

I looked at the racing beat axle back, just trying not to pay $400 for an axleback. maybe nextmod has a cheaper price. or another sponsor.

magnaflow cbe costs the same as rb axle back if you find the right deal (some sort of online coupon iirc).

Yea, unfortunately I'm not a big fan of corksport or magnaflow. they seem to have a bit of a buzz to them at the higher ends. Atleast on video. maybe not in person

You're definitely right about the corksport. I had to hack mine up to add another resonator just to make the droning more subdued (however, I do have headers under the hood, so that contributes to it).
Keep in mind that there is no muffler and its just straight pipe + resonators, so there is "a bit of a buzz".

Anyone know what size bolt is attaching the muffler to the rest of the system?

Just get the Vibrant Full CB, I PROMISE you won't be disappointed. Still one of the few that includes a high flow cat.
Sure it's alittle more costly but, it'll last forever and with awesome sound...I luv mine and it still looks like new after 6 years.

I urge you to get under a speed3 and see the difference between a speed and a regular 3...its the same car, with the same basic parts, and nearly everything is interchangeable between the two...ive owned both, and ive got everything from 2012 sky to 04 2.0L in the family that i maintain REGULARILY.
And i boosted and de boosted my sedan, and have already ripped apart the new speed to see exactly how close the 12 is to the 04-09...veerrrryyy close!
Sure TINY mods are needed, but a speed3's exhaust routes the same way a regular 3 does, and if you cant make it fit easily, you likely have no metal fab experience and should not be modding an exhaust.
And you need to realize while you may feel a difference in your PEDAL, and it may SOUND faster, you havent gained a single thing from a catback except for MAYBE A FEW LOST HP from over the years lol
I had a 3, modded it as much as i could, saw absolutely no difference whatsoever, so i boosted it to really see an actual gain in power, and that wasnt enough either, so i sold it and bought a speed..
Believe me..if bolt ons for mazda 3's made ANY REAL DIFFERENCE, i would NOT have spent 50k on random mazda shit in the last 2 years.
And really...if i am correct, a mazda 3 AFTERMARKET exhaust is 2.25" diameter...
And a speed3 stock exhaust is 2.5" wich means it has the ability to make more power...
You know how aftermarket exhausts are "designed for our car"
1.remove stock exhaust
2.make jig on table
3.replicate
4.call it "designed for our car"
5.kids on forum eat it up
