I think i have seriously bricked an Iphone... I didn't think this was even possible anymore! If anyone on here has any serious experience with this sort of thing i could desperately use some guidance.

Quick Rundown.. I upgraded my phone to IOS5 Beta 6 to give it a try and in my haste i must have over seen the fact that once going to IOS 5 apple makes it a B$#@% to attempt to downgrade to older versions. After following some advice i read on various apple forums I was led to believe with a program called Tiny Umbrella this process was made easy.. How wrong i was. I now am un able to load any firmware version onto my phone. All i can successfully do at this point is boot into Recovery Mode or DFU. Any time I attempt to restore with itunes i get different errors even when selecting specific firmwares.

Because not to many people are using IOS 5 this problem really isn't that common and I really think i could be in trouble here.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same experience a while back. I was trying to jailbreak this iphone 4 from my brother's friend. It ran ios 4.3.5 I think.. So I tried downgrading and I seriously thought that I "bricked" it. I thought it's ruined so I gave up and told my brother that it can't be done and that the phone is messed up. I tried again the next day.. After fiddling with the programs and phone, I managed to get it to run again. Although, I failed in the jailbreaking part...

I don't know for sure which programs I used but I do believe it's always the same developers. Try googling redmondpie or "how to downgrade iphone" and a few links will show. When I get to my pc I'll try and find useful links and probably write a step by step procedure on how I did it..

Don't try and downgrade our firmware if a jailbreak isn't available for your current version just wait till there is one and your better off to wait for the official ios5 release the betas is designed for developers. There is a software that puts your iPhone in and out of recovery mode you could try that and then restore it

So, I went and check, I believe we used the same software (TinyUmbrella).. I did have the same problem with errors and iTunes not restoring the ios.. I believe, from what I remember, I tried going into DFU mode (hold sleep/power and home buttons for ten sec then release sleep/power button and keep holding home button) then connecting to tiny umbrella and hitting exit recovery. Try restoring through itunes... If not that, try recovery mode (http://osxdaily.com/2011/01/08/iphone-recovery-mode/):

1. Disconnect the USB cable from your iPhone, but leave the other side connected to your Mac or PC
2. Launch iTunes
3. Press and hold down the Home and Sleep/Power button on the top of the iPhone to turn off the iPhone
4. Press and continue to hold the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to your iPhone, this will cause the iPhone to turn on
5. Continue to hold the Home button until an alert message in iTunes informing you that an iPhone in recovery mode has been detected

Then try "exit recovery" from tiny umbrella again. Try restoring through itunes after.

If I'm not mistaken, you're also not getting the pop up from itunes saying that it's detected a phone in DFU or recovery mode right? So yeah, give it a try and I hope it works..

PS:

I did this with 4.3.5, don't know if that gonna make a difference. Don't give up, I'm sure it'll still work. :)

Take it to the genius bar at an apple store, they will hook you up, most likely for free

If you can get into DFU/recovery, you'll be fine ;)

i think u should do the following,
first of all update to 4.3.5 through official update:
1. Open up tinyumbrella, go to the advance tab and uncheck the box where it says set host to cydia.
2. then use other redsnow or sn0wbreeze to get into the PwnDFU model (this step may not be necessary)
3. just try to see if u can downgrade to 4.3.5, which i think it is still possible even if u don't have shsh blob since apply is still signing it.

Ugh yah bricked mine completely a few months ago was allowing allowing me to go to recovery mode at first but after that it completely locked me out and wouldn't turn on.

Apple store replaced it free of charge via warranty... Said they've never seen an iPhone do that before lol.. I'll never jailbreak it ever again, i got lucky that time. hahah

I did the same thing once a few months ago.

There was no way for me to fix it, no matter WHAT program I used (everything described here as well as other programs not mentioned).

Needless to say, I took it to the Apple store in Fairview Mall and told them that while doing an upgrade to an iOS provided through iTunes it screwed up, screen went black with a whole bunch of crazy pixel crap, it wouldn't turn back on, and DFU wouldn't work. They took it in the back and they recovered it for me, told me they haven't seen it happen before.

Anyhow, maybe next time you should consider NOT upgrading when they say you cannot revert... just wait man. I heard it was supposed to be released in a few days anyhow.

Well I figured things out. It wouldnt let me update to 4.3.5 via iTunes because in my attempt at downgrading tiny umbrella edited my host file and thus not allowing iTunes to contact its server. So once I figured out how to get back to 4.3.5 no problem I went back to trying 4.3.3. This I was able to accomplish via this technique ( http://www.iphoneforums.net/forum/iphone-jailbreaking-17/how-downgrade-preserve-firmware-your-iphone-9736/ and http://www.iphoneforums.net/forum/hacking-tutorials-guides-68/how-fix-recovery-loop-following-downgrade-17494/ ) but for some reason I could not get my 3G data to work. Very frustrating. So now I am running unjailbroken IOS5 until an untethered version comes out. Thanks for all the help.
