i know quite a few ppl that have dewalt and love them. i had a drill but it went missing.

my dad is a millwright at the sawmill back home and he says that's all they use there. they use the 18v Max and he says they are really tough and have lots of power to do the jobs they need.

The older 18v are great but the new ones arent as good. battery power suffered.
I have a Makita from the early 90's that still works.

What are you useing it for. Some stuff around the house, work ect.

I'm still running Ryobi, had the old ni-cad kit to start(ni-cad's suck). Ran into a $100 promo with their lithium kit (drill gun/inpact gun with 2 compact lithium batts) a few years back. They've done the job since.

As long as you go litiium batteries, you should be good.

Dewalt is pretty much seen and trusted everywhere. Makita I havn't seen much of in the past decade till recent(2yrs). Milwaukee has a free extra battery promo going(i think).

they are all comparable. i would suggest getting a 12v kit that includes a drill and impact. you dont need 18v if its just being used at home. i use a milwauke 12v kit at work. dont forget bosche as well

I personally have all Dewalt Power tools. They have done very well and put up with everything I have put them through. I am a little more than your avg home owner. I do however have some other family members who are professional trades and swear by the Ridgid brand. Mainly for their lifetime warranty on a good number of their power tools. Maybe something to think about.

They are all very nice drills.

Dewalt and Milwaukee are both torque monsters (for drills). You really can't go wrong with either. Some jobs/occupations would benefit from a lighter drill, while others can benefit. FWIW, I prefer Ridgid drills (lifetime replacement batteries that will ALL die at some point).

I have the 18v Dewalt Impact Driver and Hammer Drill kit...the impact driver gets a ton of use and I'm glad I bought the 18v one, it has the guts to drive screws not just into wood but straight through, so long as your bit can reach, it will continue to drive the screw right through.

Seems that the lithium batteries are the way to go. Not cheap but less weight overall.

Makita, Dewalt is made by Black and Decker... and have been cheaping out as of late. If you want something for just around the house, consider a Mastercraft, I have had my 14V impact driver for 5 years now, and still out runs most 18V, and went pace for pace with my neighbours Makita.

I own some DeWalt tools and I am really satisfied with them. I do not have many because they are expensive and I do not use them that often. So most of the time when I need such tools I prefer power rental (http://us.aggreko.com/products-services/rental-power-generation/). This is cheaper and I can get the tools I need for one specific project and do not need to buy them. So this is a great opportunity. Nevertheless whenever I buy a tool I personally prefer DeWalt tools.
