Just blows my mind what these physics peeps are coming up with these days.

it is very cool...and variations of this have been around before, but this particular demonstration explains a bit more of the electromagnetic forces "locking" the superconductor in place relative to the magnetic field, rather than it floating due to magnetic levitation. Basically, the super-conductor (circular floater) becomes part of the magnetic field and maintaining a constant force to counteract it without disturbing it.

and no, they can't just pave the roads with the magnets for us to hover around. I'd think that super cooling our cars to near absolute zero and having strong enough permanent magnets for thousands of km's would be impractical...and rather dangerous to our health...lol...but for trains and rollercoasters, this would be pretty cool. Or railguns...

thinking it would mostly come in handy for efficiently moving things around in space.

Why does it have to be cold?
As far as supercooling you live in Canada right? lol

we can levititate a chunk of dry ice, yet the world goes hungry...

interesting.
