Hi guys,
need some advice.I already own a 04 Mazda 3. Now i need another car as we had a baby few months ago and it will be difficult for the wifee to come pick me up with my son at 5am from my work and then go to her own job at 3pm the following day. My Budget is $8000/max.I am only interested in another Mazda 3 GT or G35. my concerns are which one will be reliable as i want to keep the car for another 4 years at least.
2003 G35 is 160 kms , no rust, new brakes. 2 owners till now. from Montreal auction.
2006 Mazda 3 GT ..i searched on the net and in my price range they are also in between 150-175 kms.
Insurance is
my 04 Mazda 3+ 2003 g35= $429 full coverage
my 04 Mazda 3+ 2006 Mazda 3 GT= $437 full coverage
So there's only a $8 difference.
the Cons i can think of are
Mazda 3 GT = Rust, i don't know if the GT takes regular or premium gas
G35= Premium gas, brakes.
so far i have had no problems with my 04 Mazda 3. but rust :bang..
question is which one should i go for taking into consideration the reliability and maintenance costs

Weird they would have the same insurance costs.. The mazda runs on regular.. and I would assume gets much better gas mileage. So your fuel savings will be rather significant.
I'm not too familiar with the reliability of the g35's.. mazda maintenance costs should be cheaper as it's not a luxury brand.

Red flag right here.
Quebec doesn't have the same reporting requirements as Ontario, when it comes to odometer readings, damage reporting, claims, etc... If you're seriously considering the G35, be sure to have a competent mechanic you trust give it a very thorough examination...
Montreal winters are also pretty harsh on vehicles, due to regional climate. I'm assuming you were referring to surface rust above... remember to take a close look at the undercarriage and inside the wheel wells as well.

i think it is because g35 is 2003 and mazda is 2006

This is the same thing my mechanic told me. i haven't seen the car yet... i am taking it to my mechanic this weekend.... then will see what he says..... as the seller has no problem with me taking the car to my mechanic.

^^^ +1..... MONTREAL auction... DONT DO IT!!!!
G35 you will probably also be looking at more expensive repair costs.

G35s also require 18 inch rims minimum I believe, or maybe just coupes, but regardless - keep that in mind for snow tires. For your budget, you're much better off with the mazda.

At first I'd say the G35. Because it's a different car. But as the others have mentioned + practicality + the G35 is from Montreal the mazda3 looks to be the more economical choice. With a new born, you really can not afford spending any extra money on Premium gas (The GT does take regular) or higher maintenance costs.

I would have gone with the Infinity G35 hands down.......... until I saw that it was coming from Montreal :(

this is true..
+ overall ownership costs are higher then a mazda3, especially knowing how the g35 drinks a lot of gas

my insurance is higher if i go with corolla/civic/camry and also i don't like the looks of these three you mentioned.
Edit
Thank you very much for your input guys. After reading all of your posts i told the G35 guy ..NO...
Now i'm going to look for a Mazda 3.
Thanks
