View Full Version : Are some pads compatible between Mazda3 and Mazdaspeed3?

Hey guys,

I need some quick help here. I need front pads, and went and picked some up from crappy tire. After bringing them home though, I went to double-check the part numbers and I'm pretty sure they're wrong. I bought the Monroe's. According to the Monroe website, the MS3 pads should be 915's but their computer said it was 1044's which are for the Mazda3. I made sure they had the Turbo listed. I suspect their computer is wrong.

So I was all set to return them today and go pick up some PBR's instead from NAPA. Thinking it was probably wise to double check this time around though, I checked the website and sure enough, they're listing the same part number for both Mazda3 and Mazdaspeed3.

So my ultimate question is about whether the two are physically compatible and whether the MS3 simply specifies a more aggressive compound or something.

Will these things fit or am I wasting my time?

FWIW, I'm not at all hard on my brakes so I'm looking for pads that best match my driving... which is to say high quality everyday driving pads. Consistent braking and low dust FTW. :D

It doesn't take long to pull your brakes and check.

I can confirm CT is changing part #s now so some numbers may not match anymore. Happened to me the other day with an oil filter an the guy told me that they are " consolidating " numbers.

The speed 3 pads are DEFINITELY different than the regular 3...in fact there are 3 different front pads, the GX/GS share a size, the GT has its own, and the MS3 has its own as well. The speed 3's are much much much bigger.

I guess I should have mentioned that the pads would be different. But the numbers could still be off.

Thanks guys. I won't even bother trying with the ones I bought then. This sucks because the weather should be nice enough to work in tomorrow while next weekend may be freezing. :(

Does anyone know of any place in Toronto on the east side where I could just walk in and buy a set of brake pads, other than a dealership? It seems that Monroe and ATE both make some but crappy tire doesn't sell them.

Yep. Still kickin' out here. :D

Has anyone bought some from Part Source, Crappy Tire, or NAPA? Crappy Tire and NAPA both seem to think they're the same as the Mazda3 GT pads. :(

They might be a volvo part number, if I remember correctly the speed 3's pads are sourced from volvo.

Yeah, I tried that as well and Crappy Tire simply didn't have anything for the compatable Volvo's.

It's all good now... I've just ordered a set of Hawk HPS pads. Hopefully the weather is nice again this weekend, though it's not looking so good right now. Might be one cold install. :)

Did the installation yesterday and, as per usual, I took some pics and wrote up a HowTo. If anyone needs instructions for Mazdaspeed3 front brake pad replacement, here they are: http://www.wildweasel.ca/HowTo/Auto/Mazda3/FrontBrakeInstall_MS3.aspx

Enjoy. :)
