So I am moving to Edmonton. Where it is pretty much the coldest place in the world sometimes. It looks like the wonderfully stupid condo I will be moving into won't have plug ins.
Aside from switching to synthetic oil is there anything else I could do to make it a bit easier for my car to start in the wonderful -25 average throughout the winter?

Theoretically you could get an extension cord, keep the female end, cut the cable and wire the pos and neg wires onto the battery terminals, and run the socket onto the interior of the car; then buy one of those Motomaster Eliminator portable jump batteries and store it inside with you.

That way when you go out to start the car you could simply plug it in (into the extension socket, maybe near the passenger foot well) and start the car without worrying about a cold/dead battery.

EDIT: It would obviously need to be a heavy duty cable, such as for an air conditioner.

So there isn't underground parking at this condo? How about really closeby? That will keep it warm. In certain or most places in Canada it pays to have underground parking or a garage when selecting condos. I hate all that scraping in the morning as I used to do when I lived in Ottawa.

There is underground. However my room mate has the spot. I am hoping once I am there someone will have an open spot for me to rent as that will be the most amazing option. I'm almost tempted to park my car at a nearby house and pay them for the electricity lol.

Gas line antifreeze? How about one of those solar powered block heaters? Not sure if they actually work or not.

They technically would work... but wouldn't be helpful unless:

i) You can get them at an appropriate inclination (in the winter, this can be as much as 70° - damn near vertical)
ii) You don't leave for work until well after the sun has cleared the solar horizon (horizon plus trees, buildings etc)
