So today I was driving home from school around 5:30pm. I was driving down University Ave towards Bridge for those of you in the KW area just past the Zehrs and ramp to the 85. It was a double lane road (2 on each side) There was traffic on the opposite lane because of an accident, but nothing at all on the side I was driving on.
So it was a 60 road, I was doing about 70 which is normal. Then out of no where, a red **** wagon turns left from a hidden drive way that's hidden by the traffic on the opposite lanes RIGHT THE **** IN FRONT OF ME(thinking back...maybe about 1-2 car length) I stepped on the break as hard as I could, but instantly ABS kicked in and I knew I was gonna stop.
At the same time, I saw the "OH SHIT" faces of the two (presumably high school or university students) that were sitting on the passenger side (front and back). Pretty sure they shat their pants.
My immediate reaction after quickly realizing the breaks won't help was to turn the steering wheel hard right and that was how I avoided a potentially horrific accident.
I got really shaky after wards and pulled into a plaza near by to recompose. I was very happy of how my Mazda 3 responded to my actions, I'm not sure if it would've been the same story in another car. Also I'm ****ing pissed at those kids. But just glad that no one got hurt. I also wish I had a dash cam to record it all. Trying to be optimistic looking back, I should've had it recorded.
I'm sure this doesn't just happen to me, I don't wish for, but I bet this happens to other members too. :) So if you got a story, post!

:whoa i was by that way just a hour and a half earlier. :D wasnt my red wagon
but funny enough, the usually dont check your blind spot and merge into my lane occurred again to me today. I always avoid them.. but it always startles me :complain. One of these times I'm going to be changing a song in my car or something and not notice the idiot drifting into my lane :s

I was in a dual left turning lane today. I was in the right lane. As we were turning the old guy in a van to the left of me decides he wants to take the widest left turn in history into my car. I quickly slam on my brakes and he misses me by about an inch. Thanks government for letting him have a license.
I have literally avoided having my car written off about 5 times in the past year of driving.

Yesterday, on my way home from work, there were a couple of close calls. I go south on Dixie from just north of the 401 so imagine my surprise when a transport truck decides to run the red light getting off the 401 to turn onto Dixie taking up 2 lanes in the process.
The very next intersection, I'm 2nd in line at a red light in the right lane when the advanced left finishes and the car in front of me starts to move. Obviously I follow when it turns out that a cube van decided to ignore his left turn ending and go through the intersection anyways almost hitting me.
Yesterday was a bad day for driving after seeing that plus the 3 time in the morning where other people ran reds and stop signs with no effort to come to a stop.

We have a dual left turn lane in front of my building on Wynford Drive. At least once a day when I'm out with the dog I hear someone blaring the horn going around there, which usually indicates someone in the left-most lane didn't realize the other lane turns too. Daily. People are idiots.

Nothing recent. But this past summer I was in Alberta taking Crowsnest pass into BC.
It was dusk, the point where the sun is not completely down, but your headlights don't seem to light up the road.
I dodge 2 deers on the road... one was staddling the centerline and the other was on the shoulder on my side of the road. I'm pretty sure I came with a foot of both of them.
Thank god for evasive maneuvers from driving school.

one night going along the 401 one night i was in the 3rd lane over to the left (4 in total) i was doing about 110 just cruising along as no one was infront of me but my friend shannon, the 2 right lanes were pretty full doing i guess 70-80. all of a sudden out of no where a guy cuts out infront of me maybe 3 cars length ahead. me doing 30 km more then him quickly looked left no one was there and i hurled my car into the next lane literally jumping around him. i proceed to pass him.. didnt look cause i was too pissed. then pass him get back into the lane prolly 10 cars ahead of him and he starts flashing me like i did something wrong

Two summers ago I was driving home from a friends house at like 3:30AM going westbound on the 401 between Mavis and Erin Mills pkwy. We had been out at the OVO show, as well as a club after that night so I was super tired and had cruise control guiding me going about 120KM/H in the middle lane.
I remember checking my mirrors and seeing cars rather far behind me so I went back to just driving. As I was passing under Erin Mills Pkwy (the overpass) I noticed my car was slightly edging towards the left lane (wheel might have been on/almost at line on the ground). As I casually reached over to guide her straight again I noticed a flash of light to the left of me coming up at a high speed.
This flash of light turned out to be a driver going 150km/h roughly who was passing me in the left lane. The driver (might have been drunk or something) got worried when he saw how close I was to him, but unlike me he didn't casually pull out but rather he yanked his wheel causing him to spin out (facing me) and slide slowly across the pavement from the left lane into almost the right ditch - in a split second, mind you.
I initially slowed down but once I noticed the driver and vehicle were okay I moved on as fast as I could because A - i was too tired and out of it to face a confrontation/possible police report etc and B - i was scared the dude was hammered and was going to come after me thinking I caused it.
Very scary incident nonetheless - always serves me as a good reminder to check my mirrors and stay aware of my surroundings at all times.
