First time this ever happened to me, after having the car for 7 months or so...and man, does it suck?! :bang
I parked at a parking garage downtown Toronto last night around 930pm, on Richmond St West..and went back to pick up my car around 1pm today and see this:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/Crimzaelus/IMG-20111127-00477.jpg
They smashed the driver side rear window, completely destroyed. Even scratched the door a bit..and the leather seats are a little roughed up as well cuz of the shattered glass.
All inside the center console: took my coin wallet ($250 worth), a Zune mp3 player, a flashlight, some cards (petropoints, etc.), and the tray in my center console (i have no idea why)
They didn't take my GPS though..although I have no idea why they took my flashlight.
All in all, I feel pretty upset...read another thread about Star Auto Glass, so I'll call them tomorrow and see if I can get it replaced asap.
In the meantime, it looks like this:

Won't be driving it to work anymore though.

Feel your pain, it really sucks. Hope everything goes smoothly to get it back to ship-shape.
those downtown parking garages are not safe for cars at all.
co-workers car got broken into at 11am during the week at the Simcoe parking garage
same place myself, MBNTO and Nitsuji park.
*******s.

Sorry to hear it, I hope you can get it fixed soon.
Did they break your visors and small triangle window too?
I have not idea what's wrong with these thieves. My friend's car got broken into last year and only took a pair of fake Gucci glasses.

sucks bro,. i never leave my car downtown alone for more than a couple hours.

Yeah, I dont plan on ever driving downtown and parking overnight again..unless it's secured by hotel or even valet parking (which I've done once).
It's stupid how people like that just cause trouble in others' lives...gonna call security and see if they catch anything on their security camera tomorrow as well.
Sorry to hear it, I hope you can get it fixed soon.

Yeah they broke my visor, I'll have to get that replaced..no idea if I can just buy one, or have to buy a whole set again..got em from Nextmod.
After replacing it, gotta tint it again as well, i guess my fogs got a long while to wait now.

Man that sucks balls! I been hearing more and more stories about people getting their windows smashed these days. I was at Autolinks the other day and two customers came to get their windows tinted again because their cars were broken in to and I believe both incidents were in Toronto as well. I hope the repairs don't rape you and good thing your leather seats didn't get cut up from the glass. Good luck with the fix!

the low life's of downtown strike again. Sorry to hear about what happened :(. Do you keep valuables in sight or hidden away?
if you don't mind me asking, whats the name of the garage (so i can avoid)?
for people parking around front st. the underground parking on windsor st. by fion mcools is pretty good, never had issues there.
Sorry to hear that! I try to avoid downtown parking but if I do I never leave high priced valuables inside.

^^ Doesn't seem to matter. When mine was broken into they only took a box cutter I had in the glove box.

I feel your pain, happened to me a few weeks ago.
Same window. Which I don't understand, it's a bitch to get into the car from there.
Cost me 150 at star. But mines an 07.
Depending on your deductible it might be worth it to go through insurance. Between the glass, leather and scratches. I don't believe they'll cover content though.

some peoples kids.
i swear i dont know how people can steal from someone, i cant do it. I cant say I'm a saint, Ive bought pirated movies, ive jailbroken my phone for the free apps. but to go into someones car or house or whatever to take their personal belongings without any sort of conscience? I dont know how they can do it.
sorry to hear about this dude hope all works out.

How do you know it's kids?
Honestly in toronto ( where I live) it is most likely not kids.
In smaller towns I will say ya probably kids, but in toronto most likely adults. bums, addicts ect. I've witnessed alot of bne's and done aftermath work at hundreds, 99% of the time these people are 25+ no longer kids IMO.
Just a few weeks ago I was broken into, the guy is in his late 30's

I know the feeling. I think at one point or another all if not most of our cars have been broken into at a present point in life. I can't stand the idiots that cause this crap. For the most part I think it's those lazy ass teenagers that don't like the word "work" that they need to be stealing and breaking other people's crap to make a little bit of cash. As clever as they think they are caught once and you have a record for who knows how many years...bunch of low life's. Everything in life is paid for...they'll get there's!

Good question. Do GX, GS, GT, GTE models come with some sort of stock alarm? Sorry to hear about this Fayvir.

It has Anti-theif alarm. I believe it is standard on GS and above. Optional on 11' GX

don't you have the shock sensor w alarm? Security once told me my alarm kept going off all night.. they kept checking. Thank-god I befriended security.
Anyways, I was going to point out around Richmond and Queen there have been more frequent break-ins recently. My friend was mugged outside the gym by two punks (one hit him hard in the head) the other grabbed his arm and ironbar'd it to steal his iphone. Unheard of.... I live and walk to work and noticed more broken glass on the ground!
Stupid ass punks. Never keep valuables in your car dt unless it's a secure parking lot.

even if you have all that, once they break your window, your window is still broken at the end of the day.
That's the biggest pain in the ass, is getting that fixed and driving around with a broken window.

^agreed. I have a theory though... punks are less likely to do a smash and grab at luxury cars.

Sorry to hear man :( Same thing happened to me almost a month ago. Punks either had a master key of some sort or slim jimm'ed my door open. I know as a fact that I locked it because each time I lock my car i check the door handles in case. It happened at UofT in that parking garage where that girl supposedly got abducted. That's where I park everyday and they REALLY need to invest in some cameras. :bang. Anyways, the guys cleaned out my entire centre arm rest and took an ipod touch, tomtom gps, and a bunch of CD's. Definitely the worst feeling for anyone that has it happen to them

Damn, sorry to hear about this... A few years back, a friend of mine got his car broken into at one of the parking lots downtown... We were just out a maybe 2 hours or something, then when we got back, his driver side window is all smashed up. They took a gps and other miscellaneous that I don't remember...
Makes me think twice about taking trips downtown.. All those crazy people with nothing else going on in their lives. Hearing about these stuff makes me want to grab a set of cameras just like davehkg's...

I dont know its Kids.. what i mean by some peoples kids is really a generalization stating that they were probably brought up wrong, or instilled with the wrong moral values and ideals. but that could also be very wrong, in short.. its just saying.
regardless.. i hate losing anything.. wallet, phone, keys, lottery ticket.. ANYTHING.. so i can imagine how pissed id be if i walked to my car and saw that.

Depends on the year/trim/model
2010 Sport is equipped as standard on all levels, Sedan is GS and above.
For 2011, as long as you get the comfort package (which I'm sure everyone would have), you would get it.
However, these alarms are useless. One of the news stations did a test on this...they press the Panic button to see if it alerts anyone and no one gave a crap about it.
Sorry to hear :(

Yeah, I wondered about my alarm going off or not, which is weird, i have no idea how that system works..>
Anyway, i filed a report with the police but dont think there's anything they can do. They even said they get about 30 of these cases a day; whether that's true or not, i dont know.
Still waiting on the security footage, if i can get my hands on that...
Called Star Auto Glass, as recommended on here, and got a reasonable quote so I booked an appointment with them today to get it replaced.
Gotta re-tint too :( wish warranty covers it, haha
Probably need a new tm3 decal as well :(

A couple of years ago, our Rav4 was broken into at the GO Station (typical). The damage to the car itself (ie. broken window, dents, scratches, cut alarm, stolen car audio) was covered by auto insurance, but the content within the car (ie. cell phone, some stuff in the trunk) was covered by home insurance.
If it were just the broken window, I wouldn't have claimed anything; just fix it on your own.

Instead of the regular beep beep beep or EEEEEOOOOO EEEEEOOO EEEEEEOOOO, WOOOOOOOOO, it should be voice recorded "CALL 911, CALL 911, CALL 911" ONLY when the windows are bashed into. I think this would grab more attention....

I wouldn't say it's completely useless.. it does draw the attention from security (if it is patroled) or bystanders if they are walking by the vehicle. Broken glass, guy sifting through the car's contents.

that would be a nightmare... imagine... ambulance, fire, and police showing up? waste of time/resources when it could be put to a real emergency.

Reminds me of a sketch on SNL in which the central alarm system operator talks to the burgler asking him to stop. The burgler say's no; and keeps doing his thing.
