Hi folks,

Question for anyone experienced with Park and Fly (never used them before).

I have been calling their customer service line for 3 days now, and no one would pickup--until this morning.

Anyways, I'm flying out on the 10th, with my father returning on the 11th. I'd like to leave the car parked at a Park and Fly lot, and have him drive it home. (he has the spare key on his person). Would this be do-able in the self-park lots?

The lady on the phone kept going on and on about how Valet parking is the ONLY way, citing some 'release form' that's required, but conceptually, I can't imagine a reason why self-park wouldn't be an option. I have zero experience with Park and Fly, so for those that have used self-park before, is it possible to make this work?

I imagine it to be like this:
- pick up the 'tickets' that raise/lower gates and stash it in the trunk
- father flies in, shuttles to lot, finds car, pays ticket and drives off
>> Where does this logic begin to fail?

Thanks in advance!

/price isn't the issue, it's that I generally like to avoid other people driving our cars if at all possible. Eliminate one less headache by avoiding an unlikely but potential 'finger-pointing-game'.

Don't use Park and Fly. Use the GTAA airport parking lot. Leave the parking ticket in the car. When he arrives, he gets in the car using his spare key, pays for parking using the ticket you picked up and left in the car. He then drives away, no hassle at all. Same logic as you stated. I just find the GTAA lot much more convenient. No need to wait for shuttle buses, they have a mono rail.

your plan will work fine.

I used another company that shared the park 'n fly lot last month, it was far cheaper (for 10 days).

The name escapes me right now.

This lot should be fine. We've used park n fly lots, always parked the car ourselves. I've never heard of this valet thing. She's probably just trying to get more money out of you. I would just go with the GTAA lot like Ami said. The monorail is fun lol.

It's a couple dollars difference from the looks of it. But you also get to ride the monorail. Monorail.

It does cost a little bit more, but when you look at the frequency of Park N' Fly shuttle departing every 15-20 minutes, that is a significant detraction from Park N Fly. That I could be waiting 20 minutes outside in the cold with my luggage waiting for a shuttle bus does not appeal to me.

+1
Monorail comes every 3 minutes iirc. And you get to wait indoors where it's warm.

I used Park n Fly two years ago for two weeks during the summer. From what I remember, they had 3 different levels of parking lots that they offer; Valet being the highest (ie. most expensive) and Economy being the lowest (cheapest). The difference is mostly proximity to the airport but they say that the Self Park (middle level) and valet have better security (ie. more than just a fence). Lady on the phone was trying, somewhat unethically, to upsell you to Valet.

I used the either the Self Park or Economy lot, probably Economy since there's very little point to paying more for basically the same service unless you're upgrading to Valet. I didn't mind waiting for the shuttle, but it was summer then. I think I waited for about 10-15 mins. From my experience, I don't see you or your father having an issue with the plan you outlined in the first post.

However, like everyone else mentioned, there are other options.

Looking at the FAQ on the website, it is still a shuttle bus service. Plus the process seems like a pain.
"I am in your parking facility. What's next?
You need to stop at the office first. Please have your flight information, car license plate number ready, also bring in any discount coupon or reservation slip you might have from our affiliates. After paperwork is done follow the driver to your parking spot."

I returned from my trip. How do I contact you?
When you arrive back, whenever you are ready to be picked up give us a call. Toll free number can be found on the check-in slip. You will then need to go to the designated area mentioned by our parking attendant, where you will be picked up and brought back to your vehicle.
