Hi Guys.

With Christmas rolling around, I am getting ready to pick up the annual Christmas tree.

Difference this year is I dont have access the usual truck I have had for years. Normally the wifey picks up a 9ft tree and around 4ft circumfrence at the bottom. Its usually wrapped up by the place we buy it from so its not that wide... but Im concerned about having it placed on top of the Hatch.

Not because of scratches or dents - but just safety and actual stability. I also dont have a roof rack....

Anyone do this in the before.

Thanks

Why not bag in and stick it out the back hatch with it tied down?

I've seen lots of people with the tree on the roof of the cars without a roof rack. I'd just make sure some cardboard or something to prevent scratches and make sure it is secure and not obscuring your view from driving.

haven't moved a christmas tree before. Depending how far/fast you go, strong ropes/bungee cords and some superb knot tying skills should do it :) Just make sure you secure all 4 directions :)

Oh, Sorry... forgot to mention that I cant stick it in the cabin... to much things that I cant move easily.

I'll just stick it on the roof and drive home slow... only about 10-15km

My family usually picks up a large (10ft) tree and takes it home on the roof of our CX-7, without roof racks.

If you use tie-down straps effectively and drive slowly/carefully you will have no problems.

I actually wish I had a picture.

4x8 sheet of lattice on top of a gen1 sedan. Even sat with one of the holes over the antenna.

As long as you strap it well you should be fine. But do make sure you garb a red rag just in case it overhangs a little far.

I would imagine a yoga mat would work pretty well too.

Should be able to find a cheap one for <$20.

Id suggest you go to KIEA, they have those car board "roof rack" type things. pick up one of those, then strap her to your roof!

if you can get them to wrap the tree in burlap or plastic sheets (or bring garbage bags to wrap it), it could be easier to tie down

unscrew the antenna mast
bring some rope or bungee cords
use an old bed sheet or something to protect the paint on your roof
