Hey everyone
im wondering if any one knows what the ambient temperatures of HID bulbs (3000K) and the temp of LED bulbs. since i have after market fog lights im on my 2nd pair (this one with HIDS 35W) and are starting to melting look again. I cant just keep buying fog lights lol so are LED cooler, and has anyone else seen this with there fogs with the plastic front
thanks

I'd start by checking the HID system's wattage.
If your bulbs keep melting, it could be because you've got 35W bulbs in a 55W system.

If you would like you can stop by sometime this week and use my temp gun to check the temp of your current bulbs. I would assume LEDs are alot cooler.

How long have you had your HID fogs instaleld before they start melting?
I have had mine installed now for about 1-2months with no problems. (35w 6000k)

same, just under a month for my HID fogs and no issues in my 07. Though I don't know how long it took your melting issue to become apparent. Definitely sounds abnormal to me.
LEDs burn (for lack of a better word) much cooler than HIDs if you went that route.

LEDs are much cooler but throw literally no light down. Purely aesthetic.

do LED's even create heat?!? im pretty sure they dont at all lol.
but ya, like some others said, ud get like no light output compared to your hids.
im pretty sure HID's will burn anywhere in the range from 150 - 300 degrees F which is stupid hot.

It might be because of the type of actual fogs (not bulbs) you are using. Are they aftermarket?
I've had HID fogs with my stock housings for years now with no melting.

LED's generate internal heat that can destroy the LED's if it isn't heatsinked properly

+1, any time light is created some heat is given off during the energy conversion. [/physics 101]

okay true, but i mean were talking about melting plastics used for fog lights here. you can get led's that have been on for however long, touch them and not notice any heat. their not a significant source of heat, and i think thats what the op was wondering.

they are after market instead of glass there plastic which i might just try and find a cheap set of OEMs its the clear part that has melted

Sponsors, aka NextMod, Import Tuning (my personal choice) or Garage16.
They'll run you about $100 bucks...check NM or G16 for aftermarket fogs.
