i bought a set of MSR 045 18x8 +35offset and a 5x114.3 bolt pattern from a sponsor here and they told me that msr said not to put a tire bigger then 215. I was now briefly speaking with another sponsor and he said that the wheel would be sticking out of the fenders and now im worried and confused.
not that i'm trying to call any of these 2 sponsors wrong but it would be nice if anyone can help enlighten me. i've scene other members with these wheels on there 3's so i though it would be fine.
my car is a 07 mazda 3i sedan stock height
thanks
you should be fine I think. Any poke you're getting at that size should be minimal. You might need a slight fender roll if you go to 225 size tires? Someone correct me if I'm wrong please :)

i don't want to have to do a fender roll. the shop where i got the rims said to put on a 215 tire, but ther other place is saying i need to do a 225

215 should be fine on an 8" wheel. I have 215 on my 8.5"s and there is minimal stretch

I would think the 35 offset with an 8 inch wide wheel will be the problems.
I'm guessing they think the 225 will rub.
Stock offset is 50 or 55 IIRC
I bought the exact same wheels from Garage16 a while ago but I never installed them, went with Enkei instead and sold them at a loss lol
anyway I took the same MSR wheels to Exclusive Wheel and Tire to have them installed, and they said it might be a good idea to get the rear fenders rolled first since the fitment was aggressive and it "might" have issues rubbing, and they would rather I rolled first to be safe then to put them on and have to take them back off.
I've always been impressed with the honesty at Exclusive Wheel and Tire.
So I took the car to Nextmod and they rolled the fenders for me and did a great job.
I mentioned all 3 sponsors I dealt with for this exact same issue, since none of them did anything wrong, just sharing my experience. If it is one of the several tire sponsors on here that are giving you wheel/tire advice then I would listen to them since they know what they're talking about.

kinda weird cause its not that aggresive. im running 18x7.5 +48 with 225s. might rub if its wider is all.
By stretch I mean having a tire that is narrower fit on a wider wheel. For example, a 225 tire will have an almost flat sidewall when mounted on an 8" wheel, whereas a 215 tire (being a centimeter narrower) will have angled or "stretched" sidewalls in order for it to fit on the wheel
I'm terrible at explaining things, but hopefully it helped lol
and @kiyomi the +35 offset is actually pretty aggressive for our application

the pre 2010's in my opinion have a much smaller wheel well.
and, his 8 inch with +35 offset will stick out an inch wider than your set up, vs your 7.5 inch +48

simplytire told me that i can put on a 225-40-18 tire
don't forget that i'm at stock height

you can even put on a 235 tire on that rim, but you might run into issues with the 225 without a fender roll that's all. It's not the size of the tire on the rim that's the issue, it's the amount the rim will stick out that is the issue.
I suggest putting on the 225 tire and getting the rear fenders rolled. Or you can chance it and just put on the 225's and see what happens. I put my stock215's on mine (18x8) because there was still life in the tires. now they're completely, and I mean completely dead so next summer will be going up to 235's.

who does fender rolls and how much would be looking at spending on that

Nextmod does it, I think they charged me around $120 maybe a bit less, just call and ask
edit: and they took their time and did it properly, I think I was there for almost 2 hours while he did it, and he called me in every so often to show me the progress and explain what he was doing

ok cool thanks i i guess just have my fenders rolled and get a 225 tire, that way i can have a hellaflush mazda lol
lol gonna need a serious drop for hellaflush ;) gotta be low and wide
and if simply says to go 225, go for it, I trust them with my stance :D

IMO, 8 inch wide rim 215 tires are going to be stretched. Depending on the tire,
I've done it in the past and the ride quality suffers quite a bit. I then went to 225 tires, much better size for the 8inch.
If I were you, I'd roll the fenders and get 225 tires, that's more proper.
215/40 tires on an 8" wide wheel:

He's at stock height, I really don't think he'll have any issues.
When I was at stock height I had very minimal rubbing issues (ie very rarely when backing out of my driveway) and my wheels are +32. with 205/50 tires no stretch.
Stock is 17x6.5 +52.5 with 205/50.
So if he's got 215/40 I think hell be okay. Might get the odd rub on really bad bumps, dips or potholes.
Might even be able to do 225, but there may be a little more rubbing.

Front is 215/40 on an 8. Not much of a visual stretch

WOAH. Hold on a sec there dude.
If you don't need to roll them, don't roll them!
Try out the set up first, if it rubs, then waste time and potentially damage your car rolling your fenders. Otherwise, just leave em be!
