dont slam on your brakes to stop for a yellow light...not only are you risking your own traction, you're endangering those behind you who may also need to slam on their own brakes because o your move. If its still yellow and the conditions wont allow you to stop safely, keep going through. Even if you got pulled over for going through a yellow or red, cops will understand it was safer to do that than skid out into the intersection or hit a pole. Seen way too many accidents because someone wanted to slam to a stop for a light that just turned yellow.

Go through insurance, that's what it's there for. I was told black ice was considered an "act of nature" and that your rates would not go up. But maybe that differs from company to company. Might not hurt to call and ask.

Actually the rates will go up.... They say you should have control of your car at all times... Regardless of the weather.
A couple that comes into my restaurant owns a state farm insurance in belleville and they told me this

Every company I have ever seen (when asking for a quote) doesn't care whose fault it was, only that you made a claim. There is a good reason for that, and based on this I can come to the conclusion that any claim you make will affect your insurance premium, somehow.
Furthermore, if he's got a huge deductible, it may not even be worth it. Find out how much it will be, and compare it to how much your deductible is, and use that to make your decision.

While this is true, when your car hits ice, you don't always have a say in which way you're going to go. I was told it only applied to black ice because you can never see it. Of course, I could barely understand the person thanks to the wonderful outsourcing the company did. I don't think they could have picked a worse call center.

Act of nature applies to damage out of your control. Like a tree falling on your car, as well as hitting animals. As far as I understand rolling accidents due to weather do not count.
BUT I have been told it doesn't affect accident forgiveness. If you have that it won't affect your insurance OR your accident forgiveness.
Each company is different though, the damage an cost to repair may not reflect your premium as much as you would expect.
There isn't any harm in calling and asking. If you don't claim they cant raise your insurance.

If you car needs to be towed. It's quite a lot of damage even if they can reuse most of the parts.

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate mishap, Shiz.
I know a couple of body shops in the Mississauga area (Mavis/ Burnhamthorpe... Dixie/ Britania... Eglington/ Dixie), but nothing per say in the Etobicoke area. I've heard of body shops by the 427/ QEW, but nothing I've been too.
You could ask Igor at Krown Lakeshore. He won't be able to provide the repairs, but he has alot of connections in the area.
Good luck.
