Coles notes on the back story.

He qualified for the burnout contest the day before.
The day after they tell him he didn't qualify after he waited in a line for four hours.
Displeased about this he pushed his way through.
He is now disputing the claims that they told him he was disqualified with the footage he got from his go pro.
