i was asking a friend about doing any kind of mod to get faster acceleration out of my car so he said to get high rose cams to lift the valves higher to allow more fuel to be rammed in to the intake valve, and then with your exhuast valve being wider it will push out faster giving more power and a amazing rumble.
does this make sense to guys? was he correct and if so where would i go to get these cams with high rise lobes?
I feel like getting a light pressure turbo would be only marginally more expensive.
I haven't heard of that being done, however, so i can't comment on the high rise cams.

light fly wheel and maybe a stage one clutch paired with it i think might be cheaper and easier vs cam replacement. but even just the flywheel it self if the clutch has enough remining material would be enough.

thanks for the advice, would any of the sponsors here sell those 2 parts?
also i should mention i'm on a AT

You have an automatic, so you have no clutch and I don't think anyone makes a lighter flywheel for the AT.
IF you want to pursue power mods with an AT, you have to make a fundamental decision - keep it naturally aspirated (NA) or go turbo.
For NA builds, you're really going to miss not having a MT to work with, as the AT will suck up the power you're making.
If you go turbo, you may end up running into the power handling limits of the AT.
Before you bother swapping out cams, a better bet would be to do an intake and headers/full exhaust, just be prepared for the greatly increased noise levels.

very true, could always save your money and hold out for the next gen speed 3 and cross your fingers if it will come sky active.. at least thats what im waiting for next.

Then do as standsideways did, and turbo your sedan. I believe he is AT as well.
But with the cost to do this, you might as well save the money, sell your car and buy something that comes turbo'd, like a speed3.

if they had a speed sedan come out tomorrow i would trade my car in, not to mention i think the speed 3 in a sedan would look much better then in the hatch... but why it isnt offered in both like the STI is something i have been wondering for a while.

yea your right and i won't end up doing that the most i would end up doing is an exhaust system. i rather save and get a 2.0L turbo genesis coupe or 2.0L turbo a4

you can get about 20hp total from headers and full cbe (i.e. vibrant) if i recall correctly. is it worth almost 1k (labour/parts), thats another question...

didn't he blow his tranny too :S
auto and aftermarket turbo is not a good idea, especially if it was never developed and tested in that configuration (tri point used 2.3 manual).

so? Run less boost and go easier on the car. He tracked it hard at cscs.
but none of that matters when your a mechanic like he is.

good point. but the advice turbo your sedan (sic) and example of standsideways isn't realistic or applicable for the rest of us, particularly those who have auto (i.e. me and op who aren't mechanics).
Impressive

Like yourself I too wish they made a speed sedan, however, please don't bother putting a turbo on your car with an AT...it'll be too costly to install and maintain. Or get a speed 3 engine at least and find out what you need to do a straight swap and do that instead. But even then, you are compromising your weak tranny.

i dont think he blew his trasmission. the reason why his car had had smoke coming from the engine bay going 30+feet higher is cause his engine mounts were not strong enough to hold the torque. his exhaust manifold burned through the coolant hose and was pouring direct coolant onto the hot exhaust.
as for cams, it will ruin the life of your oem engine, plus power gains would not be realized without tuning. if you go the n/a route like everyone else said, be prepared for loudness. intake/headers/exhaust/pullies/mounts/tune/etc. honestly. be prepared to spend atleast 5k to get your car reasonably faster. trust me :D
