Not sure what could cause this but I have a 2008 Mazda 3 2.0L 5spd. I found today that the battery light is coming on in first under load and at full throttle in 2nd. The rest of the time it is off. Noticing some power loss while the light is on as well although that could be in my head being worried about the car. I tested the system at idle and free rev all voltages seem fine but the light does not come on during these tests. Anyone have any ideas? thanks

Battery not gaining full charge off the alternator.
Could be either battery or alt.
Thats my experience at least.

You should go to the garage/dealer to test the alt. and battery or you can buy this battery charger and it has the function to test alt. and battery

WM sale for $90 http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/80-20-10-2-amp-battery-charger-with-engine-start/10045049?trail=&ancestorID=&searchString=&moduleName=&startSearch=&fromSearchBox=&addFacet=2004%3ASchumacher+Electric

CT sale for $120 but it has a NASCAR Advantage edition stamp on it but I think it made by the same company (Schumacher) http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/3/Batteries/BatteryChargers/PRDOVR~0111577P/NASCAR+Advantage+Battery+Charger+with+Express+Star t.jsp?locale=en

It might have something to do with your intake. my car was doing the exact same thing when my intake went.

so an update i can definitley say it is not an issue with the alternator. Changed it and same exact issue. Had a check engine light come on today while the battery light was on had it scanned and it was the air temp sensor malfunction. My car does has a mazdaspeed cai but has had for 4 years now.

Imressive, What do you mean the intake might be going? The maf sensor or throttle body or something else entirly? At this point i am so confused by this car right now any ideas would be really appriciated.

my battery light would flash on and off while driving when my intake broke (during the flash i also lost power). I wasn't sure what was wrong with the car until one day I was driving home from the grocery store and my car started be behave weird (jerking, weird rpm, bad acceleration). My roommates in the car actually though i was screwing around with the clutch so needless to say I limped home & ended up limping the car later to my mechanic who simply reinstalled my factory intake & everything has worked fine since.

i don't exactly know what was wrong with the intake, it was a shitty ractive one i think it part of it broke & air was escaping or something. i ended up figuring out it was the intake because i was playing around with stuff under the hood with the car on and i noticed that if i held down on the intake or pushed it in certain directions the car would start to stall. I was worried all the jerking and limping my car did would have pulled a maf wire or something, and i did get check engine lights periodically however i've reset the ecu a few times & i think my car is officially fixed.

thanks for the info sounds about right i'll have to screw with the intake and see b/c i don't have my factory intake anymore I bought my car new and the dlr installed the mazdaspeed cai and catback before i even took delivery of it. I never even got to see the factory stuff on the car.

check all the clamps and make sure there are no leaks on the intake itself and if you can't find anything, i'd suggest running to back to the dealer and explaining the situation to them.

let us know how it goes!

so i found quite a bad buildup of dirt between the throttlebody and the coupler for the cai looked like it was leaking through there. Cleaned it all up and reassembled and during reassembly one of the wires on the afm plug snapped off looked closer and all 5 wires had exposed sections and were ready to break off. Have to wait till tuesday to get new plug before i can test out the fix.

Hopefully that'll be your problem right there. I'm not sure about the Mazdaspeed intake & it's mounting points but the SRI I used would jerk rather aggressively with the engine when I revved it. Have you had any CELs to go along with the battery light?

I had a car with this exact problem and in deed it was the maf wires causing this issue. If you read around others have had the same problem. If you go with the dealer fix it will be pricey as they do not make pigtails. You will need to hit up the local scrap yard and get a maff harness out of a protege 5 or a mpv. I think there's another car that shares the same 5 prong connector but I'm not 100% sure. Good luck

thanks guys i have someone picking me up another connector off a 3 from a wrecker near by tomorrow we shall see how it goes.

Oh and i forgot to wright down the wire order anyone have the wire color order off hand? I hope the new one uses the same colors then i won't have to worry about it.

As long as the harness is out of a mazda 3 you should be alright colour wise. I think they changed the colours for the 10 and newer models though. Otherwise anyone with a 3 will be able to snapo a pick and send it to you

For those following along a bit of info if you're wondering. I did a cross reference for the mass air flow sensor and you can get them off any 4cyl 3, 5, or 6 also the rx8 or a 99-03 protege with the 1.6L

Just thought i'd share that bit of info.
