Anyone had or have an Acura 1.7 EL? 2002 and up

I know they are awesome on gas milage, any common problems on that car?
Sister in law is in the market to get a used car for around $5000 range and I suggest getting an EL.

Opinions or reviews are appreciated. BS can keep it for yourself. Thanks a lot!

My gf has one from 1997, and still going strong.
Ok, maybe strong isn't the right word, but it's still going.
It's just that its get up and go, got up and went.
Little bit of rust on the rear wheel wells.

My friend used to have a 1997 1.6 EL as well, I know those are good economic car. Power is not a criteria for her anyway.
i know they are just a high scaled Civic, that's one good thing about it. Parts are the same with the Civic.

I have an 04. Great car but there is a TSB for a rocking drivers seat caused by pre-mature wear of the bushings. It's not a difficult fix but it requires me to remove the seat (and unplug airbag connections), disassemble it and buy a few small parts. My seat has a few degrees of rock but i've gotten used to it. Otherwise it's a good car. I get around 500km to a tank (mainly 401 commuting using rush hour which is stop and go 30-40% of the time). 45L to fill up from empty.

The body is in great shape thanks to being rust-proofed every two years.

Don't know if you're still looking for info since it's been 3 months but i'll post my experience anyways.

I got my 2002 EL in mid 2006 from an acura dealership (CPO). it was pretty low mileage at the time (47k km) and i continued that tradition (did only 12k clicks/year since then!). Since then the engine and transmission have been bulletproof and no rust anywhere as far as i can tell. I DID do Krown from 2006 to 2009 (4 times) but stopped after that. I did switch to synth oil in 2007 and also did all my other fluid changes (i.e. ATF) on time or early, so maybe that helped. But yeah, the only things that broke down were wear-and-tear items: brake job (once), suspension bushings, trunk latch, exhaust/muffler.
The car will be 10 years since manufacturing next month and i'm still on the original timing belt (knock on wood), water pump, engine coolant and spark plugs! I'll change those if i end up keeping the car, but if i go ahead with my plan to buy a new one then i'll let the next owner take care of them.

only thing is my mileage hasn't been great lately but i'm sure it's because my commute to work is in the middle of rush hour congestion and I *DO* have a lead foot (i'm the anti-hypermiler)

My sister in law bought a 2008 Yaris HB from the used car lot 2 months ago
Cost way more than a used EL, I don't think that was the best deal she got and Yaris is indeed a plain simple car.
but anyway....
