Is there a good and recommended type of rear shock to go with? or should I just get stock from Mazda?
my 2007 MZ3 Hatch was at the dealer Thursday and while doing an alignment they told me that my one shock was wet, but not leaking? Told me I should look into replacing them. So I am just wondering, good aftermarket, or dealer shocks?
Already did the front shocks with Mazda parts, just wondering if there is a good aftermarket set for the rears?

It depends what you want to do in the future.
If you plan on lowering, might as well replace them with Koni Yellows.
If not, just go OEM/OEM replacement. (KYB)

I am planning on installing a pair of Monroe's on my '06 hatch when the weather warms up.
I will watch this thread to see what the take is on Monroe's.
My rear passenger shock is toast ... I bought KYB shocks for the rear.... I pick them up tomorrow.
I bought them locally ( belleville) for $168 tax in for both rears.

for both? that's not a bad deal. dealer quoted 150 each. minus any discount I can persuade them to give me.

If your in the Toronto area give Igarage a call... I gave me a quote for the same price as what I bought them for... So it wasn't worth it for me to drive to Toronto area to get them.
Nextmod and garage16 were the most expensive for the shocks

Part source was $119 for both rear Monroe shocks tax in

I'll see what my other supplier in Cambridge has, possibly cheaper, just asked Mazda when they did my alignment last week. didn't worry about it too much cause he said it was wet, but didn't show other signs of leaking :S

Nothing wrong with Monroe shocks, mind you if your going to track a vehicle they wouldn't be on the choice list but for a daily driver they are decent. I've purchased Monroe shocks twice before for previous vehicles. I just remember they drove a little stiffer then the oem in both cases....so I would assume they would be the same for the 3. Also, Monroe has been around much longer then almost all other shock producers and is a much larger company, so they've had plenty of R&D and can produce them for less, just because of volume of sales.

i have the same problem with my 3, went to direct mazda for an oil change and they said that my left rear shock was leaking. They also recommended i change both rear shocks. Ive been reading around and there seems to be alot of good reviews for koni shocks. Is there a place around mississauga where I could get a good price for the shocks and install? Dealer gave me a quote of $275/shock install included, would going the koni route be more expensive or be in the same price range with the dealer?
Thanks

OEM shocks aren't very good. If you want a good, inexpensive replacement check out KYB - If you need/want a more aggressive setup ask our sponsors for quotes.
