The fact the transmission is doing what you say, would indicate to me the problem would lie with the trans..and from experience....those tend to be pricy repairs....but then again, with the motor computer now introduced in our cars, whenever you get problems like that, "error codes" are thrown out by the car's computer and are used to diagnose problems like that. YOu could try a good mechanic other than the dealer first.....but they may not be able to find it without that gadget that displays those type of error codes.

Tell me something....if your car is emitting exhaust, it wouldn't happen to be really white in color and excessive would it?

Also might be an issue with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or wiring. After installing an intake and forgetting to hook that baby back up I couldn't figure out why the engine was bogging down so much and fluctuating at idle.

However it sounds like a pretty serious problem and if you're not great at trouble-shooting mechanical problems with cars you're probably best to visit a mechanic quickly. And turn off the caps key as well. We know the problem is serious already.

i mean.. sounds throttle body related to me.. but what do i know..:chuckle i just work here. there is a reason why you would bring it in to the dealership.. this is why:

TSB: 01-09-18
MULTI-MODEL - IDLING UNSTABLE / ENGINE STALLS JUST AFTER STOPPING
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2004-2009 Mazda6 with 2.3L/2.5L (including Mazdaspeed6)

2004-2009 Mazda3 (including Mazdaspeed3)

2006-2009 Mazda5

2006-2009 Mazda MX-5

2007-2009 Mazda CX-7

DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit a concern of unstable idling or, in some rare cases, stalling, just after the vehicle stops with no DTCs detected. The problem is due to the accumulation of carbon deposits inside the throttle body causing air flow to decrease.

sounds like what is going on with your car. but of course is it would be best to have it inspected and confirmed.

I think Booter just made a compelling argument about why the dealership should be your first stop. If it is due to the recall you might make it out without paying anything. At the same time, it goes to show our affiliate dealerships are really there for you!

depeneding on if this is the repair of course, and if the vehicle does not have an extended mapp warranty it would not qualify for a no charge repair for this TSB. but as mentioned the best course of action would be to have the vehicle inspected to determine failure. i have seen a few throttle bodys that have required replacement as well.

thank you very much Aitch, we do try to provide as much help as possible (if possible).

head on a swivel - if you are in our area and wanted to drop in for diagnostic please let me know and we can book an appointment.

Assuming you are in a 2.3L 2006 Mazda 3, gear change from 3rd to 1st in auto is normal when slowing now. I do not know what is causing your engine problems.

there is also this TSB in relation to that and DTC's refer to engine error codes.

TSB 01-07-44
2006-2007 MAZDA3-ENGINE IDLE DIP WHEN A/C CYCLES ON
2006-2007 MAZDA3 - ENGINE IDLE DIP WHEN A/C CYCLES ON

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2006-2007 Mazda3 vehicles (2.0L and A/T except California Specification) with VINs lower than JM1BK**** ** 791118 (pro duced before July 1, 2007)
2006-2007 Mazda3 vehicles (California Specification only) with VINs lower than JM1BK**** ** 774383 (produced before May 31, 2007)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience an engine idle drop when the A/C cycles on and off (normal operation) at a stop. Body vibration may also be felt.
The PCM software has been revised to eliminate this concern. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
NOTE: When reprogramming the PCM of the 2007 Mazda3 with 2.3L (L3) engine and automatic transmission, the TCM also needs to be reprogrammed.

so in part of the other TSB you could also require a PCM and TCM software update.
