View Full Version : Keeping spiders away from the door

So I've discovered that there are A LOT of spiders outside my door. One has managed to build its web covering a big corner of the door. This is my only entrance/exit door of the house I'm renting. There's also about 5 more that hang out outside. I saw one the size of an almond coming down from the roof, not including legs. My question, is there a way to keep them away from the door and around the vicinity?? Thanks.

LOL just let one bite you...jk..don't bother them they won't bother you. Warmer weather is going to attract more insects and critters...just live with it. If tarzan can do it so can you :P

Make some bat boxes. They'll help with your creepy crawlers.

Can of WD40 + lighter? :chuckle
Yeah, just sweep 'em away. As much as I appreciate spiders eating the other nasties around, I don't like them too close to my living quarters either :P

I have the same issues.. and I live just outside the city here in London.. so I get the x1million!!... but really, I found there isn't much you can do.. even if you broom them away.. they will come back to the same spot.. or at least close to the same spot. my guess there is a light there.. bugs love lights... spiders love bugs... makes sense to me. perhaps get a goblin statue.. and paint it green.. and put it near the where the spider(s) are... see what I did there.. :chuckle

Get rid of their webs. A lot of spiders can eat their webs and then produce new silk from the old stuff. If you don't clean it all up then they can move back in more easily, rather than starting from scratch.

i've heard dryer sheets work at keeping spiders away, similar idea to the mothball suggestion, just a better scent.

You could always try killing them one by one. The fewer there are the easier it will be to kill them. Just use large sheets of paper towels. If you leave them be long enough they may just lay eggs.
Also, I vote for the wd-40 + fire solution. Please post the video when you have a chance.

This works too. Send a message out to the rest of em.
I splattered a mosquito on my bedroom wall early last summer, and left the remains there as a message to all the other mosquitoes not to **** with me.
Worked alright I think.

Keep them there, at least they will catch and eat the flies and mosquitos for you.

Or, you could use a shop vac and suck them all up. Then drop something toxic (+ a match perhaps?) inside of the shop vac to kill them all before you clean it out.
dentinger

And then roast the shopvac itself. Burn everything.

I might do that ... plus some essential oil spraysaround the entrance

i'd rather flies and mosquitos ... at least they don't crawl and hide in places, and they're smaller

This is a grand misrepresentation of the arachnid's intentions. They do not have the desire merely to stay "only for tonight", they stay in the corner, deface my home by spinning a web there, dine in my house (restaurants charge, I don't see why I shouldn't be charging for the flies), and try to sleep wth your gf while you're away (I found one there in the morning!!!), and they basically stay there without so much as paying any rent and then just leave without proper notice. :chuckle
