I hope people realize that Brian Burke is not the cause of this...these ****ing Leaf fans who think that a team can be rebuilt in 4 years are brain dead! Im so embarrassed to be from Toronto and be a Leafs fan because of these ignorant, hockey stupid fans that think its easy to build a team! LA Kings have been building for years, for God sakes look at the St Louis Blues!!!! They were nothing years ago! If you are one of these people who thinks that Brian Burke needs to be fired in order for something to happen your ****ing stupid, he knows what he's doing and he has pulled of some ridiculous trades and deals in his years...have faith and wait!
Firing Wilson accomplished NOTHING, and T.O wanted that, what makes people think that firing Burke is going to be the answer! What we need is a new goalie coach, because when we ruin a tendy like JS Giguere, who wins a Stanley Cup then comes to T.O and sucks ass...just like Reimer (sucks regardless) and The Monster (I think has potential but needs a new coach). How many times has a Leaf goalie left and become a game/season changing goalie for another team? Raycroft (for 2 seasons) and C.Joseph to name two.
Rogers/Bell and whoever else owns TML are not going to do anything! every night they sell out, there is a 10 year waiting list for season tickets...there is NOTHING that needs to change for them...If you want a change STOP GOING TO THE LEAF GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im done ranting. I hate all you TML fans that think this way, stop being an embarrassment and support your team...or pick another team.

Dude, people will never stop going to Leaf games. Ever.
Its the only market in the world where you can consistently field a losing team and fill the seats year in and year out.

Our goalie coach is apparently "the best in the business" according to your God Brian Burke.
Wilson was an absolute disaster, but at the end of the day, it IS Burke's fault we suck and you can complain all you want about the fans but at the end of the day, who's calling all the shots? Burke is. who predicts that we will be a playoff team every year? Burke does.
Even if you don't agree that it's his fault (though not entirely) that we suck, you HAVE to admit, it is his responsibility to make us better and in four seasons he's done jack shit. Player/personnel changes don't mean shit when you don't finish any better in the 4th year of your tenure than you did in your first.

+1. Be patient or find another team. The problem isn't Burke, or Wilson... it's fans who expect too much and refuse to wait for an ACTUAL rebuild. The only leafs goalie I can remember being good is Curtis Joseph, but he had established his playing style long before coming to Toronto. Every other goaltender has been a sieve mid glove and blocker sides. This is a real coaching problem.
Burke has to support his staff. If he's not prepared to make a change, he must stand behind that person. Burke hails Allaire as the "best in the business" because he doesn't see any better options at the moment. I'd be shocked if Francois Allaire was around next season.

Not a leafs as i see i have made the right decision when i was younger lol but agreed with that point. Also potvin was another top leafs goalie, prob one of the best in the last 20 years they have had. I also suggest they use that draft pick where ever it may be in the top 5 hopefully for their sake, and put a package together and trade it away for a number 1 goalie or a top 3 player. Fans should be chanting lets go rock as it has been one of the most dominant teams that toronto has year in year out. Not enough credit is given to them imo. good luck to all you leaf fans hope to see you there next year as the city will get to a whole new level once they finally get a game in.

Carlyle's contract was also questionable considering the rise of Dallas Eakins with the affiliate Marlies AHL team. He deserves a promotion. The fans need to be patient but they also need a couple hometown guys who grew up Leaf fans to suit up for them and once Eakins gets his promotion (if Carlyle doesn't win a home game soon I'd be shocked if he stick around). I think Doug Gilmour should be considered to coach the Marlies as I'm sure those boys would learn so much from a man like him.
I do however like Carlyle and prefer him over Wilson.
Also, +1 on CuJo being the only good Leaf goalie, as he's the only good one I've ever had the pleasure of watching (Eddie has his days too, but some games he just wasn't buzzed enough :chuckle).

How could Burke justify pulling Eakins away from the Marlies when they're on a potential championship run?
The team is improving. This offseason will be important to the Leafs, they need to sign a top goalie and get a top-4 defenseman (at least). Offensively, they don't need to make many adjustments as they're scoring has been pretty good this year. They are rarely shut out, they just need to get their own zone locked up so they can start winning those one-goal games instead of being on the other side, or at least start pulling out more OT and SO berths and pick up some points there. They just need to tighten up around whatever goalie they start next year, keep out the garbage goals, and gain some confidence in their own zone; and then, as I said, they will be a VERY dangerous hockey team to play against, and will be in the hunt for the playoffs.
dont they only have something like 5 or 6 players with a contract for next season ? lol i heard this, not sure if its true or not so correct me if im wrong

I'm not saying pull him from the Marlies now, I'm just saying he should've probably signed Carlyle to be a interim/potential head coach instead of a coach with a 3 year contract right off the bat. He could have still gone through with his playoff run and received his promotion over the summer.
They also really need to step it up against teams like Philly, Buffalo & particularly Boston...we get destroyed by these 3 teams on a regular basis :(

They seemed to have pieced most of a team together for next season, but extending beyond that it doesn't seem like Burke is keen on locking too many of these current guys up long-term.
Fair point, but they also fired Wilson just after a contract extension, no? What's to stop them from doing the same with Carlyle?
But, I've been doing some reading, and I think the Leafs actually have an incredible opportunity this year to set up future drafts. With the right moves (and some luck in the draft lottery), the Leafs could poise themselves to pick up MacKinnon at next year's draft and McDavid in 2014 (two junior phenom's, 16 and 15 respectively). I know I said they didn't need to worry too much about offense, but imagining a team with a top line consisting of a prime-aged Phil Kessel, Nathan MacKinnon, and Connor McDavid on a top line just seems unfair to everyone else in the league. I think the Leafs may actually trade down if they pull the #1 pick this year, and be ready to take MacKinnon and McDavid in the future.
This offseason they'd still need to find something to fix their goalie problem and do something about their defense, but honestly that would be an amazing scenario for them.
And I really don't think there's much the Leafs can do about Philly and Boston, both teams are too strong and have too much depth for the Leafs to really make the series a good one, but they can make it closer by tightening up their own zone. Buffalo, however, I think the Leafs can give a solid run for their money in the near future. Both teams play pretty similar styles of hockey, but Buffalo has the goalie and they have a defensive presence; if the Leafs can fix that part of their game there could be some great meetings between those two next year.

Could not have said it better myself....
Another reason... Injuries... we lost Reimer early in the season, and has never returned to his self.... thanks to Gionta... We lost several players in the season at crucial games that had to either make Wilson change his lines.
30% of our team was not healthy because of this.
AHL players helped out a lot, but we couldnt keep them playing.
If you ask me we need players like Tucker, a Sundin, Mogilny and a Joseph..... Grabo, Phaneuf, Brown, Lupul, Kessel and Gustavsson is not enough... we really need a stronger team that can crash the net and defend our goalie..
Blue and white till I die, and thats no lie.

THIS:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGoQkqYeTBI&feature=related (bolded statement)
Potvin, belfour and CuJo best ever.
(The boys in the video are part of the team I worked with, 2001 Atom Toronto Nationals AAA, coached by Wayne Primeau, and Don Cherry was there watching McDavid...who is PHENOMENAL and deserves the status he was given by the OHL)
Leafs need more Toronto boys, and although Wayne said he wont go back to play for TML (with a family he has set his priorities) he agrees with this statement...and we found that Primeau was the LAST Ontario born/raised player for the TML.
anyway, watch the vid, sorry its shit quality its all I can find.

I understand he could fire Carlyle the same way, but what on earth is the point in doing that?
He should have never gave RW that extension to be honest...not with the way our PK was looking at the time. He should have waited until RW got us into the playoffs to give him an extension, but they shat the bed during the second half this year and Ron simply had to go.
