hey guys,
Is it alright to run stage 2 ots tune without a dp? I only have a race pipe.

If you dont mind a technical explanation that would be appreciated.

FYI, I have other prerequisites installed for this tune.

Stage 2 is meant to be on with DP
I think u've posted that question on MSF already...

read the cobb help file

mspeed3

the cobb map files? It doesnt explain why dp is required as far as the tune goes.. I guess I was trying to figure out what benefits a dp offers our motors

and this I dont remember posting this question before..

that was your question

the Cobb AP help file would tell you if you meet the requirements for Stage 2

I was getting at what I could potentially modify in the map to make it acceptable with just the test pipe or maybe the test pipe had similar benefits to the downpipe. I did see the requirements, this is why I'm asking the question. I'm rather new to tuning and just looking for some advice.

just use stage 2+ with FMIC you should be just fine
you don't rly need the supporting mods
they just say that so ppl wont get full potential of there tunes

Folks, let's try to be helpful . If he can not safely run the stage 2 map without a DP. Is there a map that can be tweaked to use stage 2 parts, but no down pipe , but with a race pipe ? Is his other option to get a custom tune ?

I think removing a cat puts the car into stage 2 category in cobbs eyes.

^^ What he said, I'm pretty certain you can run Stg 2 safely, with upgraded HPFP/internals, SRI/TIP and removal of a cat = test pipe. DP and Upgraded IC are ideal, but not necessary.

Anyone else can confirm that?
Because that's that the exact same set up I have. CAI, TIP, Internal upgraded and Test Pipe.

In all honesty I would flash the map and take a log... but thats just me. Order a DP off ebay if your too worried.
Look at your STAGE 1 map and look at this stage 2 map and see what the major differences are and work your way up to it and see how the car reacts with logs.

My 2 cents

I can tell you one major difference right off the bat. Targetting 16psi vs targetting 19psi

This is curious because when I did my stage 2 tune before BT it only stated second Cat delete. Now when I ran and ironed out the stage 2 tune I paid quite a bit of attention to my logs.... But I had no issues.

When i had Christian tune my car in person when he was in Buffalo he told me that the stage 2 map was designed for the cobb downpipe.

According to the COBB Service Bulletin for the Speed3/Speed6 (page 3), you can run Stage 2 with a test pipe, but won't perform as well.

I am running Stage 2 + cp-eCAI + TIH + IC Stage 2 Oct91 and car runs great, values are all within safe limits (I have all the Stage 2 mods including the CP-e TMIC, but I don't have a downpipe, I run a test pipe).
In term of performance, I ran beside a friend who has the same map and mods but has a downpipe. He was able to get ahead a bit, but the difference is not that significant.

Couldnt log last night as it was wet and I wanted to hear more of your guys advice. So I didn't log anything yet, I'll do that this evening. However, just watching my AP, I'm not hitting boost targets.. seems to be at about 16.5 and tampers down to 15.5 just getting on the highway.. I know the tune tampers down from 19 to 18.5 throughout the rpm range. Didn't see any KR..

Also, I'm running the stage 2 map thats for stock fmic.. Anyways, we're shooting the breeze.. I'll log on the way home.

You may have a boost leak.

I am within the boost target at plus minus 1 psi (Cobb says you are good at plus minus 1.5 psi).
LTFT at 0 at WOT
No KR
AFR a bit rich at WOT, which I assume is caused by the exhaust flow restriction of the stock DP and/or air filter dirty (have to clean it now that winter is gone).
Fuel pressure well above 1700 as soon as I hit the throttle.

Plug in you AP and check your numbers.

Yes, I was thinking boost leak was a possibility.. I did have everything apart for my pump install so it may just be that I didn't tighten her up.

Would I hit that boost target with stock intercooler though?

007
04-02-2012, 03:57 PM
Yes, if you run the Stage 2 map without the IC:
Stage2+cpCAI+TIH 91 v210
(Assuming you have a CP-e CAI and turbo inlet pipe).

I bet it's my PCV valve.. pretty near impossible to get to. I also did catch can install. Although there is the check valve in place. I'll check everything again when I get home..

Have you calibrated your MAF for partial throttle as well as WOT?

007
04-02-2012, 04:59 PM
LTFT at WOT is 0, but I noticed my LTFT at partial is around -7.
I am currently logging to calibrate my MAF.
Then, I will attack why I run on the rich side at WOT.

So, some tweaking is needed, but the car runs within safe limits with the OTS Stage II map.

I have a catch can, and it works perfectly.

LTFT will always show as zero at WOT, however you have to compare your targeted AFR vs your actual AFR to know how much to calibrate your MAF

and my comment was directed at the OP, but I guess it applies to you as well

I don't mean to hijack but I just want confirmation that it's okay to run the stage 2 ots map without an upgraded ic or dp
Like I mean I would pick the stage two map most applicable

YES, but you need to do some homework to find the map that best suits.
Check your AFR, Fuel trims, Boost, etc.

I use to run Stage 2 + SF Oct 93, and I have a CP-e intake and a test pipe. AFR at 11.3 at WOT, Boost within the +- target, LTFT at -7 at idle, -0.7 crusing, at +1.5 with slight accelleration. Worked just fine.
Two years of lapping and burned rubber, still running strong.

I've been in contact with Cobb, they to agree that there's nothing to worrya about.
