THROUGH THE VENTS...WHENEVER I TURN ON THE HEAT.
WAITING FOR A WARM DAY TO BLAST THE VENTS WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN.
I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A NEW HOUSING DEVELOPMENT= DUT AND MUD

BUT IVE CLEANED HER AND SHAMPOOED HER AND EVERYTHING...
EVERYTIME I GET IN, DUST EVERYWHERE... ALMOST LOOKS LIKE CIGARETTE ASH

Show some pics of your dust. It can't be that bad. I get dust once in awhile too but I find more dust comes in if I have my moonroof and windows down.

Okay, you don't have to shout ;-)

Why not try this; Open your hood, the air intake vents are at the bottom of the windsheild~ clean the area well, if you have a vacuum handy, vacuum the vents well. Then; Start the car, open all your doors, put your vent selector on 'recirculate' first at full fan blast~ then move the mode selector thru all positions. Then next put the selector on 'fresh' air, again at full fan blast, again go thru all the mode selections till nothing comes out....(You may want to purchase a paper mask) and you may need to vacuum the interior again.

Hope that helps.

lol....sorry, we use cap locks at work so Im kind of used to it.
I will do that.... hopefully Scarborough gets some warm weather soon.
I had the intake vaccuumed when I shampooed the engine and the interior carpets...

will have to vacuum her again for sure... *sigh* Oh well, quality time! haha

But seriosuly, thanks again....now my baby is in the avatar!

I'd wait a day or two but honestly just don't pressure wash the underbody to death and you'll have nothing to worry about.

Where'd you have it Rustproofed?

Ziebart on Warden.
Seems to be good thus far...
They did a great job on mine from what I can tell, they washed it and everything and Tony gave me a wicked deal..

It should be okay to wash it then as often as you like. I had mine sprayed 2 weeks ago and have washed it four times already lol, oil keeps seeping out everywhere.

I see you've done yours at Krown. My dealer used to use them but then we switched to Ziebart.
Price was unreal so I couldnt go wrong.
Sadly she has minor rust in the typical spots- wheelwell and undearneath from the previous owner
Hoping to nip that in the bud!

Hopefully the oil drip will help "trap" that dust from lurking around your engine bay.

Do you have the undercarriage protector on the car still? Wondering how so much dust is getting into the ventilation.

do you drive with the fan in recirculate mode or fresh air? if you're in fresh air, then that's your cause
adding a cabin filter will help greatly too if yours doesn't have one.... what year is your car?

Create a photobucket account, its free and easy. Once you have uploaded your pics to an album copy the IMG code for the pic and post it on here and bam! your picture will appear :)

Yeap I use Krown. personally I think its the best but thats my opinion. Doesn't Ziebart coat the underneath with a tar substance? Your underneath should be all nice and black now. I used them many years ago with my CRXsi and it seemed fine., Unless they have changed thier methods. As for the other rust I don't know if Mazda Canada will take care of it anymore, as your over the 6 years, but hey you can give it a shot. Save some money. I'm sure with your connections you can get it fixed right. Anyways; I just realized in my 'instructions' I gave above, I said it in reverse lol. Do the 'fresh-air' first, followed by the 'recirculation'....and let us know how it works out, thanks.

hey guys,

Okay so considering the warm weather this weekend I tried to blast all the dust out through my vents. Cracked all four windows, blasted the heat/ac through all vents at all speeds while on the road, hoping for the draft to get rid of it all. So far so good, but that could be because im not using the ac or the heat. I did try to use it on fresh and re-circulate.

Also found a spray interior cleaner that seems to work well at picking this stuff up... but there is still evidence of dust.

Does the 04 hatch have the potential for a cabin filter? That may be a stupid question but I know some cars dont have that option. When I had my techs look at it, they said it wasnt equipped with a cabin air filter. Maybe they just dont know where to find it (they're domestic specialists), or do you mean I can have a Cabin Filter Compartment installed?

A little confused.

Thanks.

I believe the filter is just not there but the ducts are there. Maybe you can buy the filter and just have it installed.

At least that's what I remember from what I've read in the past.

(Somebody correct me if I'm wrong)

From what i remember I don't think a filter can be used. On my '05 I was told it's not possible. Same as above I'd like to hear for sure. But I've never had a problem with dust or anything anyways.

Marta when you were cleaning it. You should have gone thru all the selection modes! i'e; from the 'feet only' heat thru too the 'defrost' only, therefore activating all vent passages and combinations, at full fan speed...Only way to clean it all out properly. If you've done this your covered.

It may take some time for all the dirt to come out also.

that's super helpful! Thank you

I also had one of my techs take off that plastic moulding around the air intake vents (only could do it on passenger's side because of the wiper arm). We found SAND and DIRT in there.... so we tried to remove it. We also blasted it with the air gun, throughout the entire interior. STILL getting that dust/dirt every second day or so.

Think I have no choice but to install the cabin filter. Its like there is an unlimited supply, no matter how much I blow it out or clean it up.

Pretty frustrated.

PR3Y11-> funny thing is, when I smoked in my old car, I didnt mind all the ashes and dust from that. Now that I quit, God forbid there be a spec of dirt inside! And, NO, Im not a clean freak at home or work or anywhere else. Just my car LOL

9 months smokefree on Friday = MORE MONEY FOR MODS!!! :headbang

theo575
04-18-2012, 10:11 PM
congrats on being smoke free... trying to quit right now myself

I'd bet that the area for the filters will be full of sand as well. Mine was full of leathers and other crap, plus the filters had caked on blackness, the car instantly smelt better and seems like the ac is working better aswell (haven't tested it much so far this year lol)

good luck with the dusty car
