I am glad to hear that you're okay. Just a heads up, the insurance company will probably write it off, because of the air bag blowing. But you might want to fight with them seeing as you have obviously done work to this vehicle. Say to them that all the stuff I have done isn't worth you guys writing my car off. And also, I am betting it has been towed to one of their "preferred shops"? You should check out what shop it is, and make sure you stay on top of them as well.

Sorry to hear Peter. If you need any help, just post up. I'll come by t o help.
Insurance is a bitch sometimes so take some time whenever they make an offer and if it's being fixed, make sure everything is the way you want it before you take your car back.

Depending on what your coverage is, because it has only been 6 months I think they would give you a full replacement and not just value based on depreciation, etc.

Was it a lease or finance? If it was finance it would be better if they write it off. Value of the car will significantly depreciate after an accident like that. If its a lease than it doesnt matter either way...lol...

I agree with what Lockdown posted above, since you're sore and everything, go see a doctor just in case. You can never be too careful there. The car is something replacable, you aren't.

First off sorry Budd u may never see the car again , but there's hope.
I have been checked out the day off I'm due for another check up next Friday so the 27 just poping advils for the pain now. To give a little bit of hope my uncle is a mechanic he was down at the body shop took a look at it as well there's no way the over 20,000 of damage it all depends on the frame , if anything it will be the sub Frame that's messed up. Anywho that's the news. Insurance will take a few days . Looks like the other guy is trying something so some delay that's all I've been told.
If anyone can shed some light how writing off a car goes or info that be great just trying to now to get educated. Hopefully all works out and things get in motion by the 29th be a nice birthday. Lol. And that's the news.
Cost of car rounded off was 39,998 something like that so again anyone knows how this write off works that be helpfull , gives something to do since I'll be home for awhile :(

I can't remember completely - but did your car have a lot of mods on it? Did the adjuster give you the cost of those mods also? Or just on the car?

If you can produce a few receipts, you should be able to get reimbursed for those too. (roof rack, rims, tires, stereo, etc)

krimsalt
04-18-2012, 06:37 PM
A write off occurs if the cost to repair exceeds 80% of the car's value. Since you bought the car new, and only a few months ago, the value should still stand at your purchase price

I was planing mods but monk have none the roof rack and hitch kit are in damaged and I'm sure I all goes down hill I will be able to take them off. As for engine none only thing I did was out hid figs in and have one hose from corksport on that is as well. So pretty much the front destroyed. Even my cpe plate is fine , and hopeing the guy remembers not to descard it as I told him to keep it.

I wouldn't buy that back if they write it off. Too much work would need to be done to get it back to perfect shape and it will never be the same.

Hopefully you get the full amount when/if they write it off.

I hate threads like this but it does show how well protected a Mazda3 driver is. I can recall 3 or 4 threads where you would be positive the crash was fatal and then you read about bruises and scraps. Glad to hear you are okay.

As for the write off. You had better hope they write it off as the the car will be worthless afterwards.
At first glance I think it may very well be, one head light is $1300 + airbag at another $2000. Just that is 10% of your MSRP.

May I ask how they got to the $40,000 they put at a value??

Well that's how much I got it for I have the bill from the dealer. Warrenty taxes all that gaze came out to almost 40,000

If you got the car within the year, some policies have a clause where they have to replace the car. Not sure how long yours was, but that would also be something to look into. But also as I believe Jeff had said. The car will not be worth the same after. That fact isn't know by enough people. That's why I would rather buy an accident car from the get-go. So if you have the option, and can transfer mods, I would just get a new one if they do end up writing it off. I personally would fix it, but I didn't remember the HID headlamp, and that the airbag is that expensive. But hey, its your car, they should do what you want.

Every insurance company asked before tax amount.. so lets say MSRP is $32,000... how did you get to $40K? Did you have negative equity from your previous car rolled in? Make sure the insurance company is using current replacement value when calculating your percentage...

Also, should mention that if it is a write off, you can send in you proof of loss along with your MAP agreement and get some $$$$ back.

I am glad to hear that you're okay. Just a heads up, the insurance company will probably write it off, because of the air bag blowing. .

This is completely wrong. Airbag going off has nothing to do with a car being written off. I can confirm that a car is written off if the repair estimate exceeds 80% of the BOOK VALUE not of what you paid. As soon as the front wheels hit the pavement the value of the car decreased.

Most insurance companies have an optional coverage that will cover replacement value of the car IF you opted for that coverage and paid for it if the car was new or below certain criteria when purchased (mileage and date since original purchase). Most policies require you to have purchased this coverage and it is not automatically included. If you have this coverage then they will cover the full purchase price of an identical vehicle.

The insurance value is based on the cost of the actual car. Any additions you purchased from the dealer including MAP and other intangible items are not figured into the insurance value if you don't have the replacement value rider on your policy. Cost of mods etc will be tough to squeeze out of them unless as someone else pointed out, you have receipts and invoices for installation.

+1, they are MOT and a few other North York dealers official body shop.

I had my door replaced and the entire front half of the drivers side blended and repainted. Kirk and Eileen were very helpful throughout the process and understood my situation (student paying for repair out of pocket; gave me discounted cash price without removing any line items from quote).

Unless you work in a collision shop like me, and see the accidents that come in, you would be quite surprised as to what gets written off. And I assure you, some of the vehicles are not damaged to 80%, but some insurance companies would rather write off cars that have blown airbags, so that they are not held liable afterwards.

I agree with the replacement one as well, I did say some policies, which would mean ones that did have it.

Gorgeous car. Sorry to hear. However, much like others have said, the important thing is that you are okay.

Just my $0.02, I'd rather take the cash and hope for a write-off. A car is never the same after a major accident, not to mention the depreciation and diminished value.

When I traded in my parents' Camry Hybrid this year at a BMW dealer, they were able to see that there was a $1300 accident claim from when it was hit in the rear and needed the bumper repainted. They factored that price into the trade value even though it was repainted by Toyota and there was no damage at all past gouged paint.

You can't "argue" to get full price. You get book value for the car unless you have a depreciation waiver or replacement value rider on your policy. Otherwise you are SOL. As soon as the front wheels hit the pavement when you buy the car, depreciation starts. The more time and mileage you have on the car, the farther it depreciates.

Insurance does not use the word "Upgrade", it's blasphemous to their industry. They'll low ball him like $20,000 offer (to which he can fight for his price tag), or they'll fix it. My guess is they might try and fix it. Ultimately it is Peter's decision as it IS his car.

65-70km/h , drivers side frame parts as you can see has to be re fitted to put the panel on. theres about 70% of the

parts there just waiting for the hood to get there and the healights and steering wheel. I also made sure they are all

OEM mazda parts. so everything is starting to come together.

also as you can all see need to re dip the wheel, also rally armors had to be taken off , so that means im gonna need

Sometime the foam grommet around the bulbs can get "glued" to the car, making it next to impossible to remove the light. It's a possibility that's what happened.

Honestly, the only truth in what he said is maybe a MARGINAL difference at the TOP MOST of speeds or cornering abilities. You shouldn't have any issues with it below 100mph. Even after that, you should barely notice. So hooray! :)

Now that your car is repaired, have you talked to a lawyer? There's limitations on how long you have to file a claim so if you haven't you should lol just think of the mods you could do with a big cash settlement.

so saw the car today looked over everything and car is beauitful ,BUT... fire on the street set final touches a day back or so lol. also this happned.
so i needed a new headlight thats fine we look under the hood and the the DRL light bulb is simler to whats in the pic , i dont get it we had to look a few times none of us caught it cause alll connections work perfect . so question is there a style change between the years of bulb for the DRL old passanger side is H11 bulb the driver is seen here close to it and the fitting was different so we couldent even fit another H11 bulb in there any thoughts.

http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n550/socksocks/h1-100w-super-white-car-bulbs-dc-12v-1-pair-get-two-sugnal-blubs-free_qqnxwh1331260983955.jpg

second thing is have to still reset the car cause of air bag popping and also replace the BPV cause the little crapy plasic thingy for the hose was snapped. so still waiting and since no one allowed on the street had couldent get the part in , but headlight WTF is up with that lol.

not mad just bah come on lol cant catch a break at list comp starting paying up finally lol. anyways :bot

that looks sort of like an led. if i remember correctly, to stop the gt/speed xenon headlights from frosting, you need to replace the drl with led bulbs.

im trying to find a better pic , yea but the hole to put them in the headlight is different as well its just strange so im trying to figure out if they changed the style of the headlight also these wont turn off if i pull the e-brake up but the orignal one (H11 style ) do. just stunnded. o and it wasn't an L.E.D

Looking through the 2010-2011 manual resulted in the same style headlight configurations. The 2012 headlights are a bit different though with two types of DRLs.. 1)The usual H8 ("Type A") and 2) W21/5W (#7443) ("Type B).

Sounds like and looks like you got the 2012 headlights in yours with the "Type B" configuration.

Owner manuals found here (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?23091-Mazda-3-Owner-s-Manuals-Online). The 2012 manual section 10-10.

I'm alright things are starting to work there way out. The thing is can't go back to work lost all the lifting power in my left arm/shoulder so that's about it. The shop did do an outstanding job. Considering it was there first Mazda even got and replaced the same HID kit I got for the fogs and repaired ever starch a ding I had was nice. Aside from the headlight that stunned all of us lol. It's no biggy they still work , there just gonna reorder the right year. So does not bug me. As for air bag modular needs to be reset and my stick bPV needs to replaced. As for the clear bra I'll be Driveing it there cause funny the shop is 10mjn walk from my house. Saves me gas from the guys driving there and back :)

Depending on your policy you could be entitled to wage replacement due to the accident. It's not something that is on every policy, so go over your policy carefully to see what you are entitled to. If you don't have that on your policy, it may be something you want to look into for the future.
