Is there any way i can disable the parking lights but keep the blinkers?

I want to turn my headlights on and not have the front turning signal tos come on and stay on. i want them to only come on when i turn my left/right blinkers or hazard lights on.

So to clarify i would like to do this for the FRONT parking lights only.. the rears would have to stay on when the headlights are on for safety reasons.

I saw that there are three wires going into each light (red, blue and black). So i figure black is for ground that means I either cut the red or blue wire in the front???

Thanks

It's a 50/50 chance from what I've read you take out the bulb and put tape over one side and that should do the trick

Someone expand :p

why do you want to do that? you're REMOVING safety of your car
the parking lights are there for:
others to see you from the side on a dark road
others to see you when you're driving towards them but one of your headlights is out

cutting any wire will create an open in the wiring, and you'll have no power to your front bulbs. so, only your rears and side markers will blink, and faster than normal.
unless, of course, you add a resistor in there as well. either way, this is not a smart idea.

you're best bet, is buying LED lights, like i did before. they're white constant, and flash white/amber/white/amber when you signal. you will need still need a resistor in each side, however.

Someone expand :pThis methods works as I have done this to my car. This still allows your bulbs to function for turn signals. So you don't loose any real functions but improve the looks of your car from the front.

I understand what TheMan is saying that the parking lights are a safety feature. But even if the bulb is off, the housing is reflective so oncoming cars with head lights can still see you from the side on a dark road. Think of the car being parked at night on the road with no lights on, the head light and tail light housings are reflective so other cars can see the parked car. From the front, headlights are the brightest and most critical to improve visibility since you can get a ticket for failed headlights during the night. I have not heard of people getting tickets for no front parking lights. If you look at other types of cars, some of their front parking lights are very dim (i.e. BMW 3 series) so if the headlights are off, I doubt you can see that car well anyways.

I basically want to do this because I have LED angel eyes and HIDs and I like the look better without that amber light on the side. plus I tried the LED switchback signal lights but they werent really bright especially during a really sunny day so I'm going back to my stock bulbs. I tried the tape on one of the nubs at the bottom of the bulb and it worked but only one side so thanks for the tip. As for the safety reason, I understand but I'm pretty sure my HIDs/angel eyes will make my car as visible or more than the parking lights.

Get a different color corner light.
It doesn't have to be amber.

+1 to liquid and tozer.

Take out your bulb and use electrical tape to cover one of the terminals on the bulb. If you put tape over the wrong terminal your signal won't work, so take it back out and try the other side.

I did but it only worked on the driver side. the passenger side doesnt seem to do anything when I switch the tape. it shuts off everything but without it the light is on. so I dont know what is going on???

Yes it does

having HIDs and disabling lights is illegal
Lights visible from the front must be white or amber - Get hyper white bulbs

While we're on the topic of changing light colors.
Is it illegal to change my rear turn signal from yellow to red? I hate that yellow.

No. Rear lights can be orange or red.
04-06 mazda3s had red tail lights, remember?

why do you want to do that?

Because people hate having so many different colours on the front. Swapping to white lights isn't always better either as amber is actually the best light for indicators (for turning).

you're REMOVING safety of your car
the parking lights are there for:
others to see you from the side on a dark road
others to see you when you're driving towards them but one of your headlights is out

They are a minimal safety feature in Canada IMO. In my experience the car runs with one of two setups: a) DRLs on during the day with no parking lights, or b) low beams and parking lights on after dusk. If your headlights are on already its essentially meaningless to have the parking lights on.

Low beams let others see you on a dark road.
If one low beam is out, replace it. IF you're that paranoid while the low beam is out, peel off the tape on the indicator lights and run them for a day.

There are essentially ZERO safety downsides to this mod. I've run this way for 5 years now and the only people that don't see me are dumbasses that can't see bright cars with either DRLs or low beams on.

and what if the headlight burns out on you while you're driving down the road? you're going to pull over right away and dick with the parking light bulb on the side of a dark road? I won't
that's the whole point of having marker lights... if one headlight is burned out, people can still see you're a 2 track vehicle (a car), not a motorcycle

governments don't require crap like this for no reason you know

Heaven forbid you drive one night down a country road with only one headlight and no parking lights. Damn that never happens.

Its not like we're talking about disabling the airbags or driving without a seatbelt. Its a very minimal safety concern.

LOL.

Better un-install my HIDs, and take that damn tint off the front windows too since it apparently hinders my ability to see properly.
