Hello everyone,

I have just bought my first Mazda 3. Paid around $14,100. 2010 GX model with A/C and 38,000 km. I have been reading through this forum and it is absolutely amazing. Lots of good information.

I love the car, but one thing I noticed is that the transimssion is kind of sluggish between 1st and 2nd gears. I always drive in automatic and it doesn't always happen, but there seems to be a lack of power once shifting into 2nd until the engine revs up and then its smooth the rest of the way. Also when down shifting it feels a little rough.

Should I take it the dealer to get the transmission flashed/reset, or is this normal occurrance and I am just parinoid? Thanks.

Welcome to TM3. Sorry, I can't help with tranny issues either but undoubtedly, you will hear from someone who is knowledgeable.

Welcome to TM3.

Definitely take it back to the dealer for an inspection, but depending on how severe it is, it may even be normal. I Can't really comment much on the AT since I drive standard myself.

Welcome! That's a great choice.

For the tranny, it is a bit slow for the upshift especially 1-2 with a cold car. If you are worry, bring it back to the dealer to have them check it out.

Welcome to TM3!

As for the feel on the auto tranny...that's pretty normal, but inquire with your dealer about when (if they know) the last transmission flush was done. If they don't know, then on your first oil change, ask them if you need one. You can also inspect it yourself, the owners manual has a guide somewhere. Also, if you're driving it in manual mode then thats probably why you're experiencing the sluggish feeling...you're used to auto, it's you not the car. Get on the pedal after each shift in manual mode (on the 1 > 2 and 2 > 3 shift especially) and you'll feel nice smooth shifts...maybe a bit of wheel spin/hop at first, but you'll get it. If it feels sluggish in auto, thats because it is. The car is set up to be more relaxed in drive...also don't forget about VVT.

Happy zoom zooming!

Taking it to the dealer on Wednesday to have a diagnostic check done. I will update what they say afterwards. Thanks for all the replies.
