My dealer recently told me I'd need to have my air intake system cleaned...this costs $100. That being said, I can order a K&N cold air intake/short ram intake (any suggestions on which would be better and why?) for 135 and just pay for labor to have them replace my old system. Seems more cost effective since I'd want to upgrade the intake eventually anyway. That being said, the kit I found is only compatible with the 2.5 models. Anyone know of a good air intake system in the 100-200 range that's GX/2.0 compatible?

wow u are really getting ripped off by whoever u are dealing with. u can clean ur own intake system for free... if someone told me 100 bucks to clean the oem system, id laugh in their face for trying to pull that on me. plus the filter probably only costs like 10 bucks. lolz.

You know, you should probably search further before you get flamed. There's tonnes of threads about this. A simple google search would probably get you more results too..

now are they talking about cleaning your intake box? or your intake throttle body / manifold part of the system? becasue even if you replace the intake that wouldnt clean that part of your system.

i have the AEM cold air but it was not near the $200 range. closer to the $300 rang but well worth every penny

I looked around and saw like thousands of results for the 2.5 and rage posted...sticks and stones don't break my bones, so flames will never hurt me :D

Maple Mazda? Ahahahaha...thanks for the link. I wasn't planning on paying them 100 to clean my intake and swap the filter...especially when I can pay a bit more than that for a new system all together.

$100 is interesting to change a $28.97 + hst air filter ( we dont even charge labour here)

but maybe they were quoting to do a throttle body and manifold service. you would have to ask them to be more specific i suppose.

my intake is for the 2.5L i had to fab a custom bracket for the lower mount so if you need one let me know.

+1
what exactly were they charging you $100 for?

I didn't get her to go into full details...she was "recommending" that I get this service (it's not part of any xxx km service recommended by Mazda), and I declined it and told her to go ahead with my oil change only. They also wanted me to get my alignment checked for another hundred. I literally laughed about that because my alignment is fine from a driving standpoint (sit point rather?)

I'm guessing it's more than just a filter swap and cleaning of the pipes for 100 bucks...but my car is only a 60000...does it really need a manifold/throttle body cleaning?

PS: She said it would improve my fuel economy...but right now I'm getting over 500 kms to each tank (fill up every 4-5 days on average, but I drive a lot). Should I be getting better fuel econ?

i know the fuel econ service we offer is recommended every 2 years or 48,000 for the major service - but it includes to service throttle body and intake manifold, remove deposits from the oil and lubrication system and the fuel system as well and costs $139.95 + HST, and the minor which is recommended per year or 24,000 km is $34.95 + HST. i did the major fuel service and i average closer to over 600 km per tank, to my most of 756 KM

just as a side note. our alignment inspections are $44.95 + HST and full alignments are $134.95 + HST. even though you may not be pulling or drifting your alignment still could be out of spec, something as small as hitting a pot hole can put it out and it is a good practice to at least inspect it yearly ( or i at least think it is for ladder cost of repairs - tires, suspension, fuel econ.. so on )

Well, I wouldn't mind getting the fuel economy service when I see my mileage start dropping...but I don't think it's needed yet. As for the alignment, I'm not going to wait till I'm in a ditch to get it checked...but as you said it's a yearly thing and I haven't even had this car a year yet. I'll probably wait until the winter season for both.

wow that's some crazy mileage. do you have a skyactiv engine? I might need to get this service done cause my fuel economy sucks right now with an 08 2.3L sedan
