Last night I swapped out my stock intake for an awful $99 ebay unit. I noticed today that my computer was displaying significantly higher fuel consumption rates. Typically with the stock box, I'm getting ~6.5L/100km (on the trip computer), but today I was 1L above that. I set my cruise for 110-115km/h. I have NOT yet reset the computer... not sure if that'll help or not.
I know I should expect an average decrease in fuel economy with an intake, just because I'll probably be a little heavier on the gas to hear the intake work. That being said, is there anyone here who has noticed an average mileage increase with their intake?
more air requires more fuel to maintain targeted AFRs
you cannot expect increased performance without increased fueling...
that being said, the computer is probably also learning the new fuel trims, so maybe it'll settle down after a bit, however it still has to be worse than stock
that or maybe your cheap ebay unit is really a "trojan horse" filled with tiny midgets who are syphoning off your fuel and taking it to the person whom you bought it from.
damn high gas prices....

LOL, thanks loki.
I guess I didn't realize that an intake would actually pull "more air", just thought that it wouldn't have to work as hard to pull the same amount. I would assume that a better quality intake and filter would lessen the MPG increase.

i've heard that a cold air intake will help with fuel economy but i havent heard any solid evidence of it, just theory
Impressive

If your car enjoys running lean then sure :chuckle

No increased fuel economy in my case or decrease for that matter, but I suggest you reset the computer.

i found when i put the cold air on it went down a bit, i found before the intake it was in the 8 - high 9L / 100km and since installed it seems to average seems to be as low as 7L/100 km. less the 4-5 times it was in the 8-9 range when i decided to drive it harder otherwise it seems to have gone down, and even with my cat back speed exhaust it seems to have stayed unchanged.

No marked change in consumption or performance if I drive normally, just a nice sound above ~2.5k rpm.
I feel like the car breathes better (duh) and revs more freely when I start to push it but I don't pay attention to my consumption at that point. That's a subjective observation though.
