Hello

I used to have EBC GD cross drilled rotors with EBC Red stuff in my old car, it was not bad for street but never tried tracking them.

And now with my new MS3, I plan on tracking it 2-3 times a year and looking to upgrade the brakes to better ones, what would be a good compromise set for Mostly street and some track days?

I heard a lot of love on Hawk HPS and HP+

Assuming you are Gen 1, I would avoid EBC Red Stuff (Fronts) for Mazda 3s. They royally damaged my calipers. The fit was not snug and after a while caused damage to my calipers. MoT had to repair my calipers.
I've tracked stock pads, and they held up. Pedal feel from stock pads are sub-par though, and they over-heat after 20 minutes or so.

Having talked to fellow members at the track, many of them are on HP+; some have complained about squeal at colder temperatures, otherwise they held up at the track
EBC Red Stuff, will cause you squeal louder than a bus in the winter; I am not joking.

Thanks for the reply and infot.
I had the EBC setup in my Gen1 and now I have a Gen2.

Hmmm looks like HP+ are very popular for tracking, but it gives squeal and HPS is prefered on DD but less for tracking.

HP+ are manufactured for track use, it's up to you though if you want to deal with the noise as a DD. But would be better when on the track from what I've read. And Fuman was incorrect; nothing squeals louder then a bus...trust me ;-)

EBC yellows squeel on the street. :( Stopping power is great though.

I never had problems with stock pads and fresh fluid at the track on OEM rubber.

I heard that HP+ dust is a bitch to get off wheels if you are using them as DD

I'm thinking to try HPS and DBA or Stop tech rotors. I heard a lot of good things abt DBA, not sure for stop tech.

If your seriously going to track it, I've read good things about the DBA rotors, but seriously consider replacing the brake hoses with proper braided hoses, this alone will increase your braking ability and decrease fade....If your going to do it, do it right ;-)

I wouldent advise using hps on the track.

They MAY suffice for a n/a mazda 3 doing some casual lapping, but you need more than HPS for real track abuse.

I had hp+ front and hps rear for my first track event and i came off track with the rears smoking and the fronts doing all the work(06 n/a 2.3L)

Needless to say when i boosted the car i switched to hp+ all around.

Blank rotors or slotted only rotors for track use, no need to go dba4000 if they cost more than the powerslot/stoptech and you can get those cryo treated by frozenrotors.

Currently on my speed im running hp+ front and back with OEM blank rotors.

When i need new rotors ill be doing

Goodridge/stoptech lines

Carbotech or cobalt friction pads.

Stoptech cryo slotted rotors.

:D happy braking :)

Would any of the above mentioned be suitable for daily driving and zero tracking? I've warped my stock rotors way back around 20k :$

After yesterday track day I decided to get new fluid and pads.

I'll try to get Motul, Elf or Ford depending which one is easier for me to find.

As for pads I guess I'll go HP+ with stock rotors for now.

Ordered HP+ and got some Ford Fluid.
Now i'm debating if i should change my stock rotors out or not for some Stoptech slotted or DBA 4000 Slotted...

I recently installed brand new Hawks HP+ and Raybestos Blank Rotors all around and just recently they squeak like a mofo! I had to do some cleaning and apply some "non-squeal" solution to the shims and they are super quiet for now... but just wondering are Hawks supposed to squeal that loud? OH.. and they only squeak when I'm rolling slow in parking lots.....

You shouldhave gone with hps unless youre hitting the track

Yea I know... I should have done more research... oh well... I just figure expensive pads wouldn't squeak as much.. but it's all good... I've managed to silence the squealing with some "extra" care and attention.. next time I'm going to get different pads for sure though.. I don't drive my car super hard at all.. just a daily driver really.
